8x without compositing with the picture from 5x optical lens will not yield as good photos no matter how they optimize the software based super res zoom.

nope... can't really justify pre-ordering as I don't have anything to buy with the $250 credits.

to me 5x is the sweet spot. I don't really yearn for the full 8x. certainly not going for 10x or 30x (for the p7 pro). hence want to check out the super res zoom for the normal 7...

It's funny you mention 5x is your sweet spot, because usually people will say 2x or 3x.

If that's the case then 7 pro with 5x optical zoom will produce the best image at 5x bar none.

yes you're kinda right.. the 7 pro should be my ideal choice but I'm a bit turned off by its aesthetics (esp. the scratch-prone camera frame) and weight.

if super res zoom really works, I could make do with the normal 7.
