Comparing Pixel HDR+ and iPhone 8's new Auto HDR since according to DXOmark the iphone 8 scores a bit higher. Honestly quite impressed by it. I not camera expert la, but just sharing some thoughts.

iPhone 8 tend to be a bit warmer, and more indicative of the actual scene, but once in a while it does get the white balance off though. Pixel tend to adjust the white balance to a more neutral tone, and more consistent.

iPhone 8 also tend to brighter the shadows/darker regions more than the Pixel, but pixel shots seems to have more contrast. Also Pixel tend to have a bit more saturation in the shots, colours looks punchier a bit.

Maybe because of the wider aperture, some shots taken by the iphone tend to look a bit softer around the edges. Details wise, at first I thought the iphone 8 looked better when just comparing on screen. But on my iMac the Pixel seems to be sharper and has a bit more details?

But in the end ah, really is just nitpicking one. Image quality very very very subjective one. But I believe both are damn good already. Haven't test low light yet.

From this cropped comparison can see the difference in the style. haha. Pixel more details, contrast. iPhone 8 looks a bit softer (wider aperture). Under the roof can see iphone brighten up the darker area a bit more. Overall both are good. iPhone 8 win in a few other areas like 4K video recording with good stabilisation, and better front camera though. Maybe that's why 2 points more than Pixel at DXOmark. hahahaha

May I confirm that the 2nd pics in the whole series are shot by Pixel? There's a hell load of difference when compared on a 4K monitor.

I don't really trust DXOmark ratings.. it says Google Pixel has very good video recording capabilities...but to my naked untrained eyes, I find Samsung flagships shoot wayyyy better videos.

Videos taken indoors or in low lighting on my Google Pixel are of extremely poor quality to my untrained eyes, no matter whether it's shot on 1080p or 4K, 30fps or 60fps.

Yeah. Bottom is pixel. Top iPhone 8? I viewing on FHD screen only haha. So which you prefer?

Oh, also might have to take into consideration about the file format though. I'm using the Image Capture app to import the images from the iPhone 8. That could be affect image quality too since it exports in jpeg.

Yeah. The EIS also only for 1080p and not good in lowlight actually in terms of video. Samsung and Apple still better for video.

part 2: low light. Lol.

This one should be easy to tell top is iphone 8, bottom is pixel.

IP8 tend to go for more true to life white balance. Pixel shots are generally brighter. Details wise when see on imac, the iPhone seems to handle the details, noise, grain, better. It's an easy win for iPhone 8 for me.

I did notice that in some indoors shots or low light with moving subjects, it struggles a little though with blurry images being quite common. Wired.com review mentioned this too. I think most likely due to the HDR processing.

Then the final thing is of course the lens quality. Apple seems to be using better glass here (or just better lens design). Just see the images with the street light and compare the flare. haha.

Then of course the infamous halo effect for Pixel too when the light hits the lens in the wrong angle. The last photo is an extreme case just to show that effect la, most of the time okay one. haha.

Try searching in carousell. There is a listing by a shop in Chinatown saying they repair Pixel. Not sure whether the prices will be or not. But can try asking.

It depends on which side you are on.

Some will say this phone is better but some will say that phone is better. There won't be any resounding answer.
