Exactly?? And what’s the point of talking about false security. It is uncomfortable to have your NRIC revealed to anyone at any time without your consent. period. To those who kept saying " last time is ok to reveal etc", well, last time we didn't have so many channels or contact points for scammers to exploit.
Also, it's not possible to wipe out savings of victims last time digitally.
Please host on github for posterityif this thing resumes, is it legal to build own NRIC database for own usage basis?
It's just like keeping a copy of a phone directory with IC numbers. Perfectly legal, open information now.if this thing resumes, is it legal to build own NRIC database for own usage basis?
You can even make the database public, it's still legalif this thing resumes, is it legal to build own NRIC database for own usage basis?
WTF.... Because they failed to protect the privacy of the NRIC numbers now they argue that there is no need for NRIC numbers to be private anymore.
Superb logic from them.![]()
What I mean is that the Singpass app requires facial recognition to authenticate and set up the app. Subsequent login can be via password or biometrics.
Like it or not, our NRIC is never safe to begin with. It's has been exposed for years and there's no undoing that.
The way out is to move away from treating and using NRIC as if it's a secured way of authentication.
The way to deal with "pranks" would be for govt and companies to update the verification process.
Its the opposite.with all the ongoing scams, instead of tightening controls, they want to increase the number of publicly available data.
this is extremely counter-intuitive.

Reminds me of few other jokes from our DPXs
"When a mistake is made, just come clean and say so. But don't cover up "
"In Japan, the CEO and board of directors will call a press conference and take a deep bow, and in the good old days, they may even commit hara-kiri."
No blame culture !
