yes, there could be another side to this story.

what can be sold in school canteens need to be approved by MOH. pricing needs to be approved by Principal. any increase needs to submit request and justification. food poisoning case in other schools may end up having that item banned islandwide.

it's not as easy as some might think. my mother had a stall in a secondary school selling hot drinks and sandwich snacks before. increase 5c also need approval. school staff, especially the senior ones always like to take advantage like bringing own big mugs for their drinks, add toppings for their snacks but pay standard price... the type ai pi ai qi, ai tua liap ni.... students much better customers.

but as always, there are black sheep too. for example, some stallholders may sell prohibited food "under table".

The principal who approve this menu is sleeping..

Grant school canteen food is not the bastion of gourmet, but rice with ikan billis is like the kind of food people eat during food rationing.

tbh last time secondary school 1 plate chicken rice 1.20, add rice 1.50 also can eat till full liao. don't come say inflation, school should be subsiding the cost also

Pathetic. Last time primary school days, 50cent get rice and 1 chicken wing. $1.40 should get the same thing today.

Also, why the teachers or health officers of that school not checking what kind of food the canteen is selling.

Dunno true or not, I was told that as long as the menu don't hit certain level of sugar, salt, kcals n meet a certain level of nutrients, they just rubber stamp it.

Even if it could br the some of the most un-nutritious food sold.....

It also happended in usa sch where kids can get cheapo brand potato chips or deep fried stuffs in their lunch.

Cannot compare to tuck shop food sold to kids mah. Kids at a certain age may still not be able to perceive the value of the food they are buying. Tuck shop food pricing should be reviewed and not overcharge these innocent kids. Instead, the food they buy should be subsidized or discounted. The rental at tuck shops is so low.
