I kinda agree. Assuming puck integrity is even during the extraction phase then the pressure should be more or less even provided the top of the puck did not hit the shower screen.
But its possible that uneven flow during the wetting phase also cause the side that water flows more to be more porous to the espresso flow despite the puck being perfectly prepared and undisturbed after locking in.
Why not try to under dose (14grams). lock in normally, unlock again to check if the shower screen scrapes against the puck. then lock in back again and extract to see if you still observe the same thing.
Need to ensure your puck is perfectly prepared. Even distribution and level tamping. Use WDT to ensure distribution is even, Tamp straight down and very slowly to ensure level. Use the top edge of the portafilter against the top lip of the tamper as a guide.
The silvia is not easy to master. Parameters have to be precise and technique has to be perfect and consistent. There is no preinfusion and if i recall correctly the flow rate is quite fast since there is now flow restrictor (0.6mm on more espresso machines). But once you master the silvia, all other machines are a breeze to brew since it trains the user to be very exact. I started with a silvia too.
Here is a way to kind of preinfuse using a silvia! Using the steam wand valve.
