I'm using a normal mini coffee pot/kettle for the V60 now, not getting any decent result due to the lousy flow rate. Agree that the aeropress is much easier to use, but then again I'm super new to coffee. Just started drinking coffee last year after coming back from holiday in Australia last year LOL

Mostly mochas and lattes as I was previously caffeine-intolerant and will get hyper if I drank coffee . The surprising thing was that none of the coffee I drank there gave me any weird side-effects and I enjoyed them without sugar. Best thing was you could practically hop into any coffee joint and get a cup of coffee superior to 90% of what you can find anywhere in Sg

My advice? Espresso machine get from local distributor. They'll have spare parts for servicing and warranty.

Rancilio Silvia is a single boiler, pain in the ass to use for milk recipes and the temperature is always off. It's mostly brass which releases lead.

As well buy from the mass order heat exchanger since most single boiler users eventually upgrade to heat exchangers or double boilers.

And i won't recommend buying from overseas, there's zero warranty.
Nowadays local electronic dealers refuse to repair overseas units at all levels.

How's the v60 compared to the aeropress in terms of taste?
I have the aeropress. I like the ease of use and it makes great coffee. I've been looking at the v60 for awhile now and found that when brewing with pourovers, your full attention and technique is much tested, for 2-3mins. Seems a bit troublesome to use.

I prefer aeropress for consistency, using the upside down method. V60 can be a hit and miss, but clean up much easier so i use it at work.

You are right about pourovers needing more attention and care esp when pouring. I use the smaller 2 cup v60 so need to make tiny movements when pouring the water on the grounds. otherwise will accidentally pour water on the bare filter and make the cup diluted.

So are you single dosing too? How's the grind retention on the K3?

Yes I single dose. just enough for a double shot and to purge out the old grounds. Grounds retention is terrible. i flush about 10+ grams out so there is alot of waste.

Thinking of getting a vario but maybe after the k3 breaks!

Do you always pull 40sec shots? Looks a little over-extracted to me but hey what do I know. If it taste good, you're probably doing it right!

Yes its a bit overextracted but taste is not too bad! I was too lazy to measure the beans for the 1st shot in the video. Usually I brew with exactly 18 or 22 grams depending on the vst filters and will cut the extraction after 25 secs.

Prefer using higher dose baskets than the standard 15g one because i like oilier espresso.

could be many factors besides just the kettle or pour. The water temperature is important, besides the coffee quality and freshness and grind consistency.

I don't recommend the silvia too. Not so much because of the brass but because more of the HUGE temperature range by which the thermostat operates.

If you brew right after the boiler light has gone out you will get STEAM coming our of the shower screen and making your expensive fresh arabicas taste like drain water.

If you brew long after the boiler has gone off you will get sour espresso.

So the solution was to count the number of seconds after the boiler light has gone off to get the right temp to brew.

Like chickyblink mentioned best to get a decent HX machine or a single boiler with a PID with a bit more money.

Nonetheless I have an old silvia that I'm willing to let go cheap. PM me for details.

yeah haven't dial in yet. been busy and I tend to leave coffee stuff over the weekend.

Getting coffee over the weekend. Maybe I go Papa and get the normal house blend?

Actually Aeropress very easy to clean leh? Much easier to me as compared to French Press.

Looks like I'll give pourovers a miss and stick to my aeropress. I've recently taken my aeropress out of storage as I missed brewed coffee. But the hario slim stays now that I have the HG One.
