honestly i don't have much experience with the rocket, just had a look at it at papa palheta but price wise they are competing with VBM, Izzo, exbobar(expobar is cheaper and seems value for money) and all the other e61 group head type machines. The double boiler equivalent of the VBM double domo is the r58 (2nd version now). THe brew boiler and steam boiler is almost the same size. VBM did attempt to publish some test data to show their machine had superior shot to shot thermal stability, but honestly I couldn't really make full sense of it, maybe some italian lost in translation.

Finish wise the rocket "appears" to be of better quality stainless steel but i could be mistaken. My VBM does have a spot of rust on the inside of the housing where the metal has rubbed against each over.

faema held the patent for the e61 but after it went bankrupt some of the faema managers created vbm and continued to use their e61 group head for the machines. That being said, i don't think other companies using similar true e61 group heads are inferior.

can use pregrounded. but u are not maximising the potential of your gear. using preground coffee in a gs3 is like using ps4 to play pac man.

anyway whether pregrounded or not, the bean freshness and quality comes first before anything else.

I dare say good fresh beans grinded with a pestle and mortar can make better coffee than 1 year old bean grinded with a mahlkonig ek43.

Rocket is an aussie/italy brand manufacturing mostly semi-commercial machines base on E61.
There are other brands available, like Quickmill, Alex Duetto, ECM, Bezzera, Expobar, etc.

They actually work essentially the same way and quality won't different a lot between each other because the group head and heating system is about the same.
Among them, the popular ones are of course the cheaper ones, that's why you hear a lot of Americans and Aussies like Brewtus and Germans/Italians like Bezzera and Quickmill. ECM Italy had already bankrupt, the new ECM.de used to had their machines manufactured by Bezzera, until it was exposed online.

Bezzera is lesser known among the English although it's the oldest espresso machine company. That is because they don't endorse as sponsors and promote outside Italy until recently.

Brands like Macap, Eureka, Rancilio, La Marzocco and Simonellion on the other hand did extensive sponsorship and got themselves respectable. They held competitions, and the competitions have to use their machines. Thus people tend to believe the machines are of competition standard and are of higher calibre. Which is not necessarily true. I for one don't really appreciate La Marzocco machines despite their marketing.
Rocket is less popular because Brewtus is damn cheap with mass production.
Rocket lost a lot of creditability recently because they refused to correct some of their design flaws. Vendors even terminated themselves as resellers.

the espresso machine is the supporting actor for the grinder ( starring ).
if you read and if cost is an issue, the advice would be get the grinder first.

Hmmm why not invest in a hand grinder? King is using a Pharos with his lever machine. Lido seems decent too. When u want to upgrade to a motorized use the hand grinder can be your office companion or back up grinder for brew coffee.

Pharos like not selling anymore (or as and when OE decides to make one for sale). While there's no doubt about the quality and output, the design is definitely not user-friendly
