if you compare the prices, the savings is generally about 200sgd. and decent grinders rarely break down. the only part that needs replacing is the burrs, most probably you wouldn't need to change in this lifetime.
the mahlkonig vario is a very good deal at 700+sgd including shipping and gst.
have a bigger budget? get the mazzer mini e at 1100+.

Say you want to send for RMA.
Sending a 30kg machine from Singapore to Italy is $450, a 8kg grinder is about $130.

After warranty period, you need to pay for repair plus full freight charge, two way for a machine to and fro is about $900.
The cheap shipping you see at checkout is a discount rate given for buying machine and offered on purchase only.

When the parcel reach back Singapore, it's base on declared value and kana GST again.

Not worth it. Somemore there's a risk that it gets missing during transit.
What i mentionded was by the cheapest Singpost delivery only.

If DHL/Fedex, cost 50-100% more

What's your total budget for machine + grinder? iirc U also student.
We can give better recommendations from there.

Getting preground is a big no no.
$800 a little more can get this Bezzera BZ09 Espresso Machine - Fine Coffee Company Singapore Malaysia

Get a lido2 to go with it and u set for a long time. No need to think upgrade imho.

Iirc Rancilio Silvia is like 1k?
Spinelli Coffee Company

Budget max is 800-1000 for the machine and maybe up to 250 for a grinder? Will then upgrade later on again
The bezzera is too expensive :(
The lido2 looks good, how much is it and where can buy it?
Buying an espresso machine from amazon okay anot? There are some nice discounts there now for some machines.

Actually I wonder. Do they generally do Latte art in Italy or France?

Do you guys have a lot of excess and wastage for doing the Latte art?

I noticed MacDonald's staffs don't do and very consistent. Starbucks do too?
I go exact and no longer do latte art.
The latte art don't help in the taste.

I ever been to a hipster cafe in SG.
The guy poured not to his expectation and just poured away the drink.
What a waste.

I think classic looks are decent and delicious enough

Again wrong concept.

$2000 machine with $200 grinder cannot one la.
Remember machine is accessory to grinder.

I wouldn't go that far to say Espresso machine is just an accessory to the grinder. I will have to say they are integral partners to making good espresso.
U may want to read up the below
CoffeeGeek - Don't Skimp on the Grinder

Lido2, only can get online direct thru manufacturer.

Buying espresso machine from Amazon, u will be getting a 110V machine. U need a power invertor 2-3X the wattage of the machine+grinder to prevent damage on your machine. Such an invertor is costly and extremely heavy.

if U have $1250 to spend, why spend on low budget setup and later upgrade? that is a serious waste of money. if U are that close, I would just drink chemex or areopress and save the $550 more. and U do not have to upgrade for good! unless U want to go profession machine. or a fancy level machine
ie
this is like sgd$3500+ shipping + GST
https://londiniumespresso.com/store/espresso-machines/londinium-i

Bezzera BZ09 is just sgd$1290+Bezzera BB005 Coffee Grinder $499 is just
sgd$1790.

-------------
said note: if u really want a setup get
a ROK espresso maker us$160 and a ROK grinder below us$149 plus a bellman stovetop steamer. thats like us$400++ or $550-600
http://www.amazon.com/ROK-Presso-Manual-Espresso-Maker

or u want a all in one get this, very portable go any where also can use

well if only every customer thinks like you, the barista will have an easier time and the owner will have higher profits due to less wastage.
but you have look at it at a business sense too. youngsters appreciate nice latte art so they can take pictures of it and post them on social media for their friends to see.

You need both machine and grinder to be good enough.

A grinder helps a lot for those who are crazy about how well it flows out, but nowadays most are decent. It's not final to the taste.

The machine helps deliver the at the required temperature and pressure out for extraction.

Both are important.
Especially if you are frothing milk for latte/cappuccino.
It's good and a big upgrade to get a heat exchanger but that will cost even more...

I'll save now and buy a good one.

Wait the vario at $700 is the below? U saying the mini is better than the below k30 vario?
http://www.mahlkoenig.com/us_products/K30-Vario-Single-Espresso-Grinder-WBC-USBC-.html

Correction: in usa mahlkoenig makes vario but is rebadge as barartz in states. Branding I guess they don't have any grinder priced lower than usd$1.4k here

Ya for youngsters, but i think having too much technicalities will just hinder consistency.

I wonder those latte artist do pay attention or able to pour to the right propotion for latte and cappuccino.
Sometimes i find that the lattes cafes make taste like a cappuccino and vice versa.
Baristas are more like artist and less concern about the taste.
With a lot of wastage, what a pity.

A classic cappuccino still looks good

The risk is greater if one is buying a espresso machine, I would take the risk on grinder. Changing burrs is easy.
There are some est on on how much coffee a burrs can take b4 changing. If one starts drinking at mid 20s maybe need burrs change 2-4x. Grinder may outlast me. Lol. My mignon I don't see it failing.

rocky with 50mm burr size gets a est ~500lbs of coffee b4 changing.
Baratza Vario Burr 54mm get ~590lbs
Mahikonig k30 65mm burr ~800kg.
HG One or Robur gets ~1800lbs, if U drink 1lb a week thats ~34.6yrs b4 changing.

Machine even it don't break after few yrs need to replace gasket. Need more work for one to take it apart. If one loves to diy great, otherwise local service helps

yes, machine is a big risk to get from overseas.

Maybe for grinders.
The burrs will surely last unless the coffee has stones.

Coffee has stones will req more freq changing, no stones depending on daily consumption it will last longer a few times the warranty of grinder.

A 54mm burr - 2 double shot a day, the burr should last like 25.5yrs!
Those commercial joint get to change more freq with say every few yrs.
