I just went to starbucks for a cup of espresso to wake myself up a bit. This was my first visit there since I got my own espresso machine. As I was queuing, I looked at the beans in the hopper and they looked like charcoal. I thought to myself, "can't be as bad as I remembered." Stared at my espresso, saw a pale layer of thin crema which might not mean much. Mustered up some courage, took a whiff and a sip. Another sip. I think I must have been screaming "no no no" internally as I walked out of the joint. Sorry for the rant but I think my tongue and stomach were very offended. Is this what people around the world put up with daily? It tasted just like instant coffee imo..

True story bro. No offense to starbucks lovers, sometimes even the 3 in 1 instant coffee taste better than starbucks.

Actually i think MCD taste better than Starbucks.
But starbucks isn't the worst.

The worst i had was from Pacific Coffee.
Surprisingly, saw a lot of Caucasians in the cafe.

And yeah, burnt milk is as crap.
In fact, it normally makes up the most in milk based drink.

True to that, their coffee are not meant to be sold and drank as espressos. Maybe only 1% of their customers are espresso drinkers.

Their standard lattes, cappuccinos, frappes and flavor based drinks are their mover and shakers.
If they had picked a lighter blend for their mix, it might taste worse.

Note that their latte cups are enormous, 16 oz lattes.

My lattes are just 5oz
If they had used light blends, even 20 grams may not be enough to bring any flavors out.

It's a different style but no doubt they are widely accepted as delicious and are still popular.

By definition latte is 1:3 to 1:5 ratio. 2 ounce of coffee 6 oz of milk.

You not really making latte by Italian definition more Cortado which is 1:1 to 1:2 ratio.

Their smallest latte cup in states iirc is 12 oz. 1:5 ratio.

Intelligensia or bow truss is 8oz cup smallest

I do it once every half year. Don't notice any remarkable difference.

How do u do it? Just vacuuming it? I read that u can grind minute rice through it as well to suck up the coffee oils

Use grinder cleaner from urnex or puly caff will do.
Even compak and whole latte love recommends that.

Vacuum only suck out the powder but not the oil.
You dismantle will surely lose the calibration in some way then must waste beans to calibrate back.

I never consider Starbucks and Coffee bean as coffee... They are "Beverages" to me.

Coffee Bean used to taste much better when it just appear. The Baristas were very well trained. Now the Baristas just "anyhow".

Noticed a trend that Starbucks have changed their machines to automatic which gives consistency and reduce training cost. At least you are sure to get consistent "Beverages" at Starbucks. Coffee Bean sometimes I get burnt ****.

Good grinder - dismentle would lose calibration all depends on how the machine works

The only drink I get from Starbucks is the Latte Breve

Look at Eureka Zenith 65E / NS MDX, they doesnt lose calibration even taking the top off as the adjustment is made by turn down the bottom burr instead
(Of course there sure are some tiny differences but much easier to dial in again)
