JB Thai Fair @ Paradigm JB.
"Mixed platter" RM20 ringgit
Coconut Silkworm
Looks 'big' but just hollow flimsy shell.
Black gold cricket
While the mouthfeel is definitely more substantial and "filling", the "insectoid" taste is brutal..
Big grasshoppers and big crickets are a problem, many of the appendages were tough like prawn shells. The legs have 'spikes' that can jab the mouth lining.. only ate the head and the thorax..
Medium / Smaller crickets better in that respect. Can pop the entire critter in mouth.
Bamboo worms. Slightly more solid innards, machiam soggy fries but outer layer crispy.
Silkworm chrysalis. Slightly more "solid" than coconut silkworm
Not insect but the fried tiny frogs tasted the best, a little like anchovies.
If I have to pick which insect to eat again.. none of the above. But dun mind trying other critters.
Need a fairly intense solid sauce to slightly mask the "insectoid" taste. It lingered for a while, burp and belching can transiently revisit the experience
