got this effect on the "crown" shaped parts after spraying with grey (mr hobby) primer and grey tamiya paint.

does it look as if there's a thick coat of primer and no paint on it?
i am comtemplating spraying black instead

hi guys i got a question

for topcoat, do you guys spray the whole completed model, or do you guys spray the parts separately?

e.g. for unicorn gundam/banshee the inner frame has clear parts, so i suppose matte topcoat would ruin the glossy look of the clear right?

depends...u can mask it
otherwise separately

for the above 2 mg, transform to unicorn mode then spray

Depends on you, for me i do parts by parts as i like my kits have mixture of both matt n gloss.
You can spray the whole kit too, but must mask the clear parts.

For Unicorn, i'm doing it by individual pieces or assembly parts of them without the clear parts if possible. Cause even in unicorn mode i find there are still some seamline gaps and i just wanted to be safe.
If not, its normally by parts, (eg. arms, legs, etc)

I have the avatar AMP, the hands are definitely a lot bigger than 1/100 scale mobile suits.

I don't own any 1/60 kits so can't really help you on the size compatibility question but you can find 1/60 G-system articulated manipulators on ebay.
