hmm just wanna confirm the steps of applying decals and panel lining before i really screw things up

After i finish building the kits(not gonna paint),

1) apply clear gloss
2) apply decals and draw panel lines
3) finally top coat

is this the correct steps?

And also because i doing a PG strike freedom with some gold parts on it , if i apply spray top coat or the clear gloss , it won't cost it to rust or what right?(sorry for the noobie question) pai seh...just wanna confirm everything...hehe

Logically speaking, shouldnt you draw panel lines first and apply decals before you coat to protect the model?

if not, maybe line first, apple gloss, apply decals and then final top coat..

What starter grade kit do you recommend for someone who already find HG too balls-crushingly difficult? 1/200 Speed Grade? Or NG/AG?

HCM Pro or MSIA.... only effort needed into pull it out of the box....

personally i gloss coat then do enamel wash(panel lining) then decal, then top coat.

the gold parts are electroplated(not the dull gold parts), its not metal, so it wont rust.
the best is leave the gold plated parts alone, top coating will make it not as nice.

thx for the reply, hmm just wanna ask why spraying the top coating on gold parts will make it not as nice? care to elaborate a bit? (sorry for the trouble caused >_<)

u can see the result by gloss coating on the runners where u cut out the gold parts from and see if you like the result? some might prefer a more dulled gold, some prefer not to touch the existing gold?

decal first then panel line is correct.
panel lines represent gaps between armour plates (ie empty space or lobang). so if u panel line first then place a decal over the line, ur decal will appear to be floating on empty space

I cant agree to that. Just made a complete mess while panel lining after i put the decals on. Some of the rg decals are so close to the panel lines that the decals became black or removed when i wash. Am i doing something wrong? My poor freedom

Did you gloss coat after decal before panel line? I think the general rule is if you create a new layer (Paint, Line, Decal, etc), you coat it (Save the previous layer) before adding something (Weathering, Panel, etc).

Anyway, finished OOB the RG Justice:

At first, I wasn't too hot about the Justice, only getting it because it's RG and also, a major unit in SEED. But building it really makes you fall in love with it. There's a lot of appreciation for details, how well it meshed together and how great it looked when it's done, especially when making the backpack. I think the Fatum-00 backpack gives a lot towards customer satisfaction although that's not to say that the unit itself feels solid.

In fact, I would rate it above the Freedom, primarily because it's able to hold its beam sabers on its waist better, hold a natural pose unaided with backpack attached and the amount of equipment/gimmicks you get, such as beam effects, shoulder blades, sweeping wings, moveable backpack thrusters and locking Justice on Fatum.

Can share wat colors u used to achieve e diff shades of pink, red n purple?

Slight nitpick: a personal preference, would b even nicer if u had used waterslide decals instead of e stickers provided as e bordering of e stickers can b seen.

also my first painted kit
did handbrushing in the beginning on certain parts of the kit
continued with airbrush after I got my compressor

flaws here and there, wished I could've done better but I learnt alot

unlike the previous photos(phone-cam), this was taken with a compact cam

pardon the bad quality, had to use a tripod and toggle the shutter speed to make the glow visible to the camera sensors
realized u can't simply take a photo of glow-in-the-dark paints..its tedious, but I picked up something new today

the powder(With clear green) was handbrushed(didn't have my airbrush at the point of time)

Don't seem worth it. Get the Chinese magazine + conversion at $25, then get the kit from HAG at $20++. End up overall still cheaper and u get a hobby magazine to boot.

I'd like to know too. I only see the Kinokuniya Japanese version ($40+) around. Would like to get the Age-1 Razor, but paying >$40 for an add-on doesn't seem quite worth it...

u can get it in kino orchard, chinese mags section. Think this month is $28, so after discount is around $25.

Note that chinese version is 1 month late. So september issue can only get in sept (and not august)

compressor was around 240 wth airbrush iirc, got it from keith back then
although recently I'm thinking of getting a simple u-star airpump, seems more silent.

guys.... what kind of top coat do u recommend actually?

i tried using clear paint tamiya spray can for top coat after panel lines.... the lines smudged and destroyed my gundam

Since I'm lazy to go Art Friend, I use either of these 2 topcoats [Credits in link =\]:

If you can upload a picture of your Gundam, maybe we can help see what went wrong? But topcoating has it's issues as well, such as frosting.

All these magazine talk is making me realise how ridiculously cheap they sell for in Malaysia. The City Square Central sells the mandarin version for like RM12 to RM25 depending on issue. A little more for those that comes bundled with free items, maybe RM40. But the negative side is having the NSFW figures censored by black markers. Too bad the place is undergoing renovation.

So far I not do decals over panel lines area, so i'll do panel lines first, easy to clean up if kana overflow, won't affect if no decals is there.

Than put decals, let it all dry for a few hours than apply topcoat
