If China really want to attack Taiwan they won't use missiles first. They will wait until Taiwan's US support weakens, sanction Taiwan first, restrict Taiwan companies assets in China, stop Chinese investments in Taiwan, apply laws that money in China cannot be spent in Taiwan nor transfered to taiwan. Freeze the accounts of all those who break the new law. Next denounce Taiwan currency.
Next block trade routes and ship routes, cut off the trade supplies and many people will flee, international companies will leave causing economy downturn. Cyber hack their power stations, stocks market and military base and make them fail. Reduce their supplies and shipments, keep doing this over 8 to 10 years and slowly wait until their economy weaken and wait for the right time more people will flee then lesser people in the military until their military weakens in a mess and there will be social panic and problem. Hire mercenary as pirates to hijack and rob Taiwanese trade ships.
When the time is right such as US cannot save them any more because of war with Russia, then surround them and choke them. More will either flee or willing to surrender or willing to make peace deals. By then Taiwan military morale at the lowest , can't even fight properly much less talk about missile exchange. China will then offer peace solutions without war and with great benefits, it will be tough not to accept when at that time, Taiwan internally conflict and have disagreements among themselves because some will rather join China some will not, so internal conflict breaks out. Send spies in to support those who are pro-China, supply them with money for them to create a anti-independence movement.
This is just the first step, if needed to move in the next step will include cutting of food supplies shipments and blocking fishing grounds as well as blocking airspace. The whole Taiwan will suffocate and internally more chaos erupt and still China will not fire a shot. By then some regions may be pro-China or willing to surrender they will declare independence , and China will send food and weapons to support and protect them, let them fight internally, slowly eating Taiwan from inside out. Work with them to stage a coup to take over the military weapons and bases . Civil war will break out in Taiwan.
Last ultimatum is China will declare Taiwan independence movements as a threat ,ships and army to surround the seas of Taiwan and issue last warning: those who don't want to surrender can leave taiwan if they don't want to fight. Many will rather leave Taiwan. Finally the Chinese army and the pro-china Taiwan army will move in together to take out the rest who are in low morale .
