Can't wait to try. I bought the first Andriod phone, first Windows phone. And had tried symbian, windows mobile OS. What a long journey!
I hope the Global Pura 80 series are HarmonyOS.
I have recently updated my Huawei to Harmony Next and have been using it locally for about 2 weeks. About 90%-95% of the apps that I have been using works normally. However, a number of apps cannot work. I have about 100 apps on my phone, about 5-10 cannot work.
In short, if you are using the phone for normal use, such as taking pictures, phone call, text, surf internet, social media, watch video, listen to music, book transport, play simple games, order drinks and food etc., it is perfectly fine.

Singpass? Banking app?
All the normal major apps such as Netflix, Google, Edge, Whatsapp, Spotify, Facebook can be easily installed using the EasyAbroad app and they run normally.
Some of the local banking apps will also work. As I don't have account with all the banks, I cannot try all. Maribank and HSBC apps work. Citibank app works but cannot be set up for token authentication.
DBS Digibank and OCBC apps cannot work. DBS app shows system error, and OCBC app says to update app even though it is the latest. GxS app says device incompatible.
For payment using QR code, PayLah! works, as does PayNow in Maribank and HSBC app. Shopback and Grab QR payment also work. For PayLah, it will say Malware detected occasionally but restarting the phone resolve the issue.

For topping up MRT card using NFC, SimplyGo and EZ-link both works, but NETS app cannot work. NETS app say emulator detected.

For cloud, connecting to OneDrive, Google Drive and WPS Cloud is fine. Ironically, I could no longer connect to Huawei Cloud as it says region not supported.

Yes, GBox can be installed, and therefore Google PlayStore too.

Chinese apps downloaded from AppGallery all work but you will usually need a China number to log in.
Most of the Huawei apps say region not supported and cannot work unless you log out from your Huawei ID. Because of this, Huawei Cloud, Huawei Health and Super Device cannot work.
So strangely, almost all the non-native Huawei apps work fine, but native Huawei apps are not supported using a Singapore Huawei ID or SIM card.

I'm using Huawei watch and need to set as Malaysia for certain functions to work. What sort of native Huawei apps are those you mentioned not being supported? Curious as I never own a Huawei phone
I am not sure about Malaysia as I only tried in Singapore. Under the original Harmony OS 4.2 and EMUI, I don't have any issue with Huawei watch, but under NEXT, somehow I cannot pair with it.

many apps only work in China. They should have filter in out. It's already difficult for normal users and they are making it more confusing.
The AppGallery in Next is the China version. There is no global version of AppGallery in Next. The only global app I found so far in AppGallery Next is Booking.com!
EasyAbroad, the Android container in Next has most of the global and local Singapore apps. Interestingly, running benchmark under the Android container returns almost the same results as running natively.

Under Next, the default keyboard now has all the foreign languages while previously it has only Chinese and Mandarin. Like before, you can change the key color and keyboard skin to customise your on-screen keyboard. You can also download emoji.
Eagerly looking forward to the global release of HarmonyOS NEXT, hope Huawei takes the leap of faith and release the upgrade globally later in 2025 rather than in 2026.
EMUI is so dead with Android 12 and there isn't any AI feature to talk about even if we buy the top end model handset.
We can rely to EasyAbroad and DroiTong in the meantime until app developer decides to port their app(s) to native HAP.

Yesterday Harmony OS Next 5.1 was pushed to my phone together with an update to EasyAboard. The few banking/payment apps like DBS Digibank, OCBC Apps, GxS and NETS that didn't work before are now working. The Esso app that previously did not work is also working.
SingPass is not yet available but there is a SingPass Staging app which looks like a beta under testing that is available. It seems like close to final except that I cannot log-in.

With the EasyAbroad update, Next OS 5.1 is almost the same in its ability to run Android apps as under MicroG with OS 4.2 and EMUI. The following are still not working:
1. SingPass app
2. All the Huawei native apps that require cloud access, these work only with Chinese Huawei ID
3. Pairing of Huawei watch
4. AI photo edit, this seems to need local Chinese Huawei ID as well. Normal photo edits work
