audio-technica M50 sounds like a good choice =)

Hi, I went to try the M50 and find that it lose a lot on staging naturally being a close can. I do gain more pronounced bass but the vocals are not really to my liking. Quite warm in a way. I have also tested the Senheisser HD598 & 558 and find that the 598 really stands out a lot on vocal and staging for a semi open can. It does loses out on the bass portion but I would say not bad for a well staged headphones. Very close to my car's ICE active 3 way setup and my creative optical setup. Only thing that prevents me from buying is that it burst my budget @ $399.

Any recommendation close to the 598?

Dunu Trident is a good choice at $59, slightly above $50.


How about the Sennheiser CX300ii? I would say the audio-technica CKS77 is a good choice though =)

I'm inclined to the S4 but am unsure of its built quality. Anybody has had first hand experience with it (both good or bad). In terms of the sound quality is it similar to the FA consonance? Many thanks in advance!

Wearing specs should be fine if the cables isn't very thick. =) Tangle free depends on the material and thickness as well, flat cables are usually tangle free but in the end still must coil them properly.

I would say for your taste you might want to try the Westone 1 but slightly higher at $219.

Although I have an infinity TSS 500 5.1 speakers, but this is just good for movies only. Not meant for music. I'm new to headphones. Never own one before. Is there something that I need to know?

Have you look into Beyerdynamic DT880 and Sennheiser HD598?

If you want the wireless take a look on Sennheiser RS180, IMO it is great for portability, movies and games but not so much with music. But for this you need to look into ebay/amazon because the price in local store is just above your budget. If you want to stretch your budget look into the RS220, review said its all way better than RS180. I wish I can get them someday.. hahaha

Sony MDR-1R and VMODA M100? Comfort wise the Sony MDR-1R feels better. Both should suit your purpose. =)

ATH-M50 maybe. It has a coiled cable, so it should never tangle.

err... amps don't really boost the bass... except for those with an explicit bass boost switch/button. Most Fiio amps has this function (E6, E7, E11, E17) but they varies in quality.

Or just use EQ. If your iPod (?) is an iPod Touch, there are a lot of EQs solutions available. If not, try looking into installing Rockbox, it has an excellent EQ function
