I am currently using i5-4670 with Hyper 212x. At room temperature, the processor temperature is about 40°c. Is this considered normal or should I delid?

Any fellow forum member provide delidding service?

Ah.. Delid delid!!! :D

But anyway, before you do any delidding, please check your CPU, check if the cooler is mount properly, and what kind of thermal paste are you actually using? If its the stock ones that comes with it, I suggest that you get some new thermal paste and try.

40 degrees alr very normal, 80 degrees is the unsafe temps. delid only risk bricking your cpu since you're not going to be able to oc anyways.

I tried MX4 before but the temperature was about 3°c degree lower.

Since I am replacing the thermal paste, might as well delid so that I don't need to re-apply in future.

Why do you want to delid? You cant even oc the CPU. Delidding is only needed on K series CPUs cause pple are getting very high temps or even throttling WHEN OVERCLOCKED .

Not entirely true. There are some chips that in within itself dried up during normal usage. And when it does, temps on load can surge till it reaches over 90deg.

One good example was the 4790k. The stock frequency is as good as a 4770k* being overclocked. For that there are some whom have their 4790k delided even though they have set it to be at stock speed.

Although yes, overclocking chips especially haswell in SG, do have a high chance of hitting throttling limit when overclocked to.

Edit: typo

Like many others said. I don't want to earn your money unnecessarily. The temps you are getting is pretty normal at 40deg. Considering the current ambient in SG is between 33-34deg right now.

Do check your temps when on load. Is it breaching 90deg?

'Delid' means to remove IHS, then replace existing stock TIM between die and IHS. Don't think anybody runs on naked die. Cooler still contacts IHS.

Still need to replace tim between cooler and IHS from time to time

This video is one good video that shows deliding in an ang mo country. There were tons of comments against his videos. And of cause some supported it.

Their ambient temps over in their country can be rather cooling. But they don't know what is it like to have an ambient temps in SG. For them to hit thermal limit is far. Whats more its Skylake. Their load temps were around 5Xdeg. How can we even beat that. Lol.

If the thermal paste dries up and causes the temp rise and hence CPU to throttle, you should RMA the CPU, not delid and reapply thermal paste yourself.

Delidding voids the warranty. And if you don't know how to delid, you can damage the CPU, esp. haswell due to the capacitors beside the die.

True. I'm not entirely against what you think.

But do you know what had happened when Intel asked you lots of question before RMA? Cause high temps to them its hard to justify. Overclocking is worse. And they might void warranty for that.

By the time you send for RMA and get it back. The downtime of it will be 2weeks. While deliding the fastest is 5 days to close back the chip.

Note that void of warranty is true. But if you returned it with its "original state". You still can get a swap.

40 Deg C is perfectly normal in SG, especially with the hot weather now. My 4590 + Hyper 212x combination is also hovering ard 40 Deg C at idle. Don't bother if you are not overclocking.

I was running my 4690k at 4.6ghz on stock cooler at idle/load about 80/100 degree for a month :s13:

Sell your 4670 and get the xeon equivalent instead if you want lower temps on a locked chip. No extra turbo bins available for intel chips unlike nvidia gpu so no point bringing the temp low.
