HELP: Gigabyte mobo boot looping

Few months ago, my gpu (gtx 580) developed problems so I RMAed it. Their customer service desk kindly loaned me a spare GPU to use (gt430). My computer ran fine on this spare gpu. However, once my old gpu returned, there was no display (all the fans, etc running).

Thinking that perhaps it was the gpu and driver clashing, i tried to boot from my onboard graphics. The system however was only able to reach the "Loading operating system..." before rebooting again to the same step infinitely.

i dug around and found that the most common cause to this problem is the mobo malfunctioning. i tried to reset cmos many times (removing mobo battery up to few hours, leaving only 1 stick of RAM, shorting CLR_CMOS) and even reflashed the bios but the problem still persists.

So now I am unsure of what to do. Any experts can help me troubleshoot the problem?

gpu: i5-2500
mobo: ga-z68xp-ud3
ssd: crucial m4 128
psu: seasonic x-series 760w gold
gpu: msi n580gtx (recently back from rma)

Hello, thanks for replying!

As the 24 pin wire is fixed quite firmly to the motherboard and im afraid of damaging it, i dont think im experienced enough to conduct the psu test.
Are there any alternatives?

to remove the 24 pin, remove 4 pin first, by holding the wires ( move your hand to the 4pin connector go down till the end, wiggle it out, and then remove the 20pin the same way

this is the easy way to test liao, no other way

I have removed the wires from mobo and done the test. After switching the psi on there was a click and soft whirring, anything out of the ordinary?

U can go beyond bios screen and reach 'loading operating system'? Sounds like ssd issue leh. Do u still get reboot loop when u fully unplug ssd from the computer?

*btw, is bios updated yet?

Yes it will display the loading but will stop just before the windows logo appears and reboots itself.

I reflashed my bios to the latest version f10 but it didn't make a difference.

I don't think the issue is with my ssd though, just 2 days ago with the old Gpu(gt430) everything was working fine.

is there blue screen flash before reboot?

say, check bios set to ahci (i assume u installed windows in ahci mode with ssd) in case it reset to ide after u clear cmos.

Thing about hardware: even new ones can be dead on arrival (DOA). Better to check thoroughly? It's a relief that u can boot into bios though. Can probably say mobo and cpu is ok. Now go remove ur ssd and see if it still loops

And no, there isn't blue screen, the screen just turns black for a few seconds before it reboots

Thing about hardware: even new ones can be dead on arrival (DOA). Better to check thoroughly? It's a relief that u can boot into bios though. Can probably say mobo and cpu is ok. Now go remove ur ssd and see if it still loops

usually we use minimum amt of hardware to troubleshoot. barebones testing uses just cpu, ram and mobo (gpu if no on-board gfx)

if u remove ssd and every other component is ok, u might get a msg saying that no boot disk was found and bootup will pause.

I took out the gtx580 and did all the bios resetting without it in the afternoon, and as it did not work, I put it back in to try all of your suggestions. Should I have took it out?

Why do this test when he is able to boot?

Is the boot up test fully completed?

I removed the ssd and booted. Now under "loading OS" it says "disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter."
