Help on Mini-ITX Build

Hello guys!
I'm looking for some advice on my first ITX build!

The main purposes would be more for 3D modeling application and casual gaming.

I have recce few shops at SLS, this are the components I have shortlisted:

Fractal Design NODE 304 Black
Seasonic M12II-520 80+ Bronze Modular
Intel Core i5-6500 Processor (6M Cache, 3.20 GHz)
Kingston 8GB Module - DDR4 2133MHz
Gigabyte GA-H110M-DS2
MSI GTX 950 GAMING 2G
Toshiba 1TB 32MB Cache, 7200RPM

Total build price about $1100 max

Is been 10 years ago since my last secondary school modding days!
Took me some time to catch up but I'm still very clueless, ain't sure will it work.
Since is ITX, I'm very afraid of airflow, overheating etc if wrong/missing component.

Hoping if you guys could provide me some alternatives in between this components
Budget best below $1500, still need to buy monitor and peripherals too.

P.S: Only nVidia cards works for my 3D application else it always give crappy display.

these component u choose is sightly miss match...

but i wonder how heavy is your usage. since i7 will be a better one...

anyway does ut 1.5k include everything else or just a pc?

Everything $1.5K, just brought MBP this year too so don't want to burn so much.
Monitor and peripherals the most burn is about $250 max
So PC can squeeze about 1.3K max

That's what I worried about for the component I chose.
I really like the 304 case tho, portable enough if need to use out of home.
Are there any alternatives you may recommend?

What 3d modelling app you using?

Woah quite a few, but mainly Rhino + Keyshot and occasionally ZBrush.

This is a nice build.

Just for academic interest. The motherboard has M.2 PCIe SSD support, but the SSD is for normal SATA port correct?

If I want to use the M.2 port what's the best value SSD available? Assuming 120GB is enough.

yes, what i suggested is get the normal SATA3 SSD. more bang for the buck in his budget rather than going m.2 SSD.

currently there is no best value m.2 ssd. even 120gb is over 100 dollars across the brand. cheaper maybe can go for crucial and adata while samsung definitely will charge you more premium price for its good reputation.

SSD very nice but HDD more then sufficient for the meantime.

304 do include fan. My bad hahaha. Coz node 202 don't have fan

Just get the SSD. Don't skimp that little and lean to hdd. Once you get SSD, you won't have any regret. Lol. Plus 750gb at this pricing is superb.

Hey guys!

Paiseh for double post! I'm back after catching up more on DIY rig knowledge!

There are some adjustment on the previous build, I have purchase the following already:
Thermaltake V1 (Snow Edition)
Zotac GTX1060 Mini 6GB

Now short of ITX Mobo, ATX PSU, RAM and Cooler!
But I'm torn deciding between should I get a mobo that support Kaby/Sky or just Sky T.T

I've googled a lot, there aren't many good feedbacks on 200 series mobo that support both 6th/7th generation.
Thats why wondering would it be better to get a mobo that is more "future-proof"

Here's a few I have narrow down:

Gigabyte H170N-WIFI ITX
ASRock H270M-ITX/ac Mini ITX
Gigabyte H270N-Wifi M-ITX

P.S: Appreciate recommendation on PSU and CPU Cooler too!
PSU max $100, this case can take standard PSU.
I give up on stock fan, hell noisy. Any good silent fan cooler fan recommendation?

I'm using the Gigabyte H270N-Wifi M-ITX with a i7 kaby lake. Imho, most H270 mobos are more or less the same, so just go with anything u r comfortable with.

Probably only complaint is that the M2/nvme slot is on the underside of the Mobo. So if u want to swap it out, need to remove the Mobo from the case.

Using it with the Zotac 1060 6GB mini. This gfx runs rather hot (~82C under load). So ensure if u have factored for adequate cooling when u assemble it

EDIT: removed some comments on the 1060 mini. Since u bought it liao, so just enjoy ur card

Best budget is still MSI H110I Pro Ac. How much difference is H270N? Not notable in normal day to day notice. So I don't think it's worth the price, unless you really needed the M.2 drive and 2400MHz ram.

Plus have you gotten the ssd and ram back then? Can no longer get those kind of pricing anymore these days. They are so much more expensive.

Processor wise, get kaby. The newer the better coz you're paying like 5-10 bucks for bump in clock speed. So it's worth. Can H110i run kaby? For all the new batch, yes. Personally tested it so I can confirm it.

In order to run kaby I have to update the BIOS first right? Doesn't that means I need a sky processor to let it run first?
