There is the weekend bogyoke market which is good as well. Borrow or print out lonely planet. They give good suggestions on dining area. To them is 5 stars, but price starts like slightly more than 10usd per dish. Of course locally, very cheap as well. Over weekends, u can fly to bagan, i dun see any problem if u want it to be done though. Per sector i abt 100usd. So the price may sounds a little deterring, but definitely worth the trip.
Was supposed to go there, but we were caught up in the shan state from an overnight to a 3 nights. So we had our plan changed. So check with your hotels and take suggestions ba.

A bus ride to mandalay takes about 8-9 hours now. Can visit the ubein bridge. Sunset and sunrise both as romantic!

Will be going the classic tour route next month. Hope it's good.

i find the place quite nice...
i like the food except for a particular sauce (if go penisula during weekends can smell that)
quite scenic, people r nice but may be intimitating sometimes cos they will stare at foreigners, no harm though...

Is Anapura worth a visit. I know there's a rustic bridge there but anything else?

I've seen Singapore 20-30 years ago (which is just 1980s-1990s), and it was more developed than Yangon now. Yangon goes much further back than that, which is part of why Myanmar is an interesting place to visit.
