Hi guys. Need some expert help on a problem that has me baffled.

My PC has a primary SSD for windows and a secondary 2tb HDD for storage. It was working fine last night and i always leave my comp on overnight for torrents and all.

All of a sudden this morning, i could not detect my secondary HDD in windows. Tried to restart comp a couple of times and even change the sata port connection on the mobo but i still can't detect the 2 partition on my HDD. There was no errors whatsoever previously, not even a hint of a bad sector on the HDD.

Any experts can advise? Im totally clueless what to do now.

Cable. Go try. Enter to your bios, see your if your mobo can find the drive in one of the boot sequence or not.

Cable 1: Sata Cable
Cable 2: Sata Power Cable

Change your ssd's sata connection to another sata port and use the ssd's previous working port on your hd. What can you see?

Check under disk management.

Press start type disk management.

See if your HDD is there.

If you are sure that the cable and connections are secure then 99% the HDD is gg.

Go RMA.

Under disk management, likely to see it as raw or nothing at all.

Get another good hdd and fix to the same sata cable. If can detect, means your hdd uplorry.

you manage to recover ur data from the one that died?

Thanks for all your input guys. Will try the tips when i get back home. I sure hope the HDD did not just die like that coz i have a lot of raw footages(i do video production) in my HDD.

If its dead then its the first time my HDD just died without any hint of bad sector or anything.

Did not do...Don't have the usb connector to see if it really is logical failure or mechanical one. I don't have extremely important data in it too, so it's ok.

If the drive is faulty itself, I only know of professional recovery...might cost loads. so...I just left it somewhere in a anti-static bag. :s22:

Ok. tried changing cable and all and it works at first. the HDD could be detected on Windows. But after i left it running for a while, it disappeared again. I touched the HDD and its still running.

Maybe the SATA interface on the HDD has gone bad, copy any important data off the HDD and RMA the HDD if there is any warranty left.

Hmm did you make sure that all the cables are plugged in firmly?
