TS, please list down all parts of your desktop here including power supply used.
I suspect either hard disk dying or power supply issue.

Your HDD can be consistently be detected in the Bios? If so, take your pick of these free data recovery software and use it to try and recover the data in the HDD.

Do remember to have a sufficiently large spare/external HDD when attempting this.

know of any way to access the data in the hdd? thinking of trying to clone the hdd into another hdd.

If its a failing drive(sometimes appears sometimes dont or appear for a while and disappear), can try either leaving it unpowered and powering it up a few days later(put in storage) or putting it in the freezer for a while. Once you manage to get into the drive after that proceed to clone instantly. Usually you will have about enough time to extract your data before the drive dies or symptoms repeat again. Many people has got lucky with these tricks, I did it once with a Seagate.

Not sure about the science behind these tricks, but it seems to have worked on multiple occasions for many people over the world.
Cross your fingers and hope that the SATA interface works when you need it? Other that that, data recovery firms.

You'll fit in well in technical support jobs telling people to try turning on and off :s8:

You know what. Leaving it unpowered for a day actually works. It actually managed to stay on throughout the night and thank god, managed to copy out everything that i need to an external hdd. Gonna go get a new hdd and see whther i can clone the old one onto it.

Thanks for all the tips and help here guys!
