Help - What is Calibration Retry Count?

Hi,

I just got a Samsung HD103SJ 1TB harddisk.

I run HD Tune Pro .... and this is what I get .....

Can anybody advise what causes this error?

Do I need to do a RMA on this harddisk?

If this is a temporary error .... how to resolve this?

I just bought the harddisk from PCthemes last Sunday.

Do they have 7 days "1 to 1" exchange policy?

Download Samsung diagnostic software to perform further test. BTW, did you perform an 'Error Scan' using HDtune?

I can't find the diagnostic from Samsung.

Now doing the "Error Scan" on the harddisk now.

HDtune Error Scan will detect bad sector(s) if any which is allows a good thing to do for new drive. As for the Calibration Retry Count, if the value went up it meant your HDD is failing, time for RMA.

Almost finishing the Error Scan. So far all ok.

Wah ... only just bought last Sunday, till today only 4 days already got "1".

Think I'll call up PCthemes see whether they do "1 to 1" exchange or not.

But the sian part is .... must reinstall everything all over again ... *yawn*

Just called Yilong from PCThemes .... he very good .... told me to just look for him when I go down, he'll do "1 to 1" exchange for me within 2 weeks.

I checked the receipt, it says 10days.

Ahhhh!! Now I must quickly RMA my 2 Seagate harddisk ... and get them back quick ... if not I got not enough storage to store all the data.

Plus must re-install the OS again .... *super sianz* ....

Mine has some fields highlighted in yellow but say OK. What does this mean?

Oh no!!

The Calibration Retry Count ..... Data has increased from "1" to "3" liao
within just 3 days!!

After about 2yrs+ ... changing to another one .... the problem surfaced again.

If u wan rma I seagate wants the drive to fail the drive tool which will then give u error code. otherwise cannot rma.

If cannot rma, maybe u can buy another hard disk and use this one as backup?

Actually don't need to fail the Seatool program. So far ... all those harddisk I RMA-ed .... I didn't use the program to test.

Just raise the RMA order from the website and sent in can liao.

This seems a serious issue since even a single instance will trigger the warning. So I think it is a good move to RMA it.

Now you don't find new Samsung hard disk on sale since Seagate has canned the Samsung hard disk label.

I bought it 2yrs+ ago ... that time ... the one I got ... has this error ... so they 1-to-1 exchange for me. And ever since then till now ... the harddisk is ok.

But recently ... I run and found this error ... so have to RMA it soon.
