My info should not represent actual performance because I never plug direct to wall socket. I plug to the extension power bar because I don't have a long enough lan cable. If it is plugged direct to the wall socket, it should be faster. Current setup:

From router: Router > homeplug 1 > wall socket
To computer: wall socket > extension power bar > home plug > computer

I am using the sineoji 1800 homeplug, on M1 300mbps. My speedtest is about 140-150mbps download, 110-120mbps upload.

But yes it is stable, no spikes etc.

Able to achieve half of your subscribed speed with extension bar is good enough. Thanks for the info bro.

Thanks Moneyface, Gam, adiboy and spiky0180. The information you guys gave are top quality. Couldn't thank you guys more. :)

There is this i5-6500 with the ASUS B150 Gaming Aura and i read that it says it has wifi? This bundle would cost $507. Whereas if i were to go with the i5-4460+Mobo=$385, I would still have to purchase the wifi thingy which will cost an additional $100+, in the end total up also around same price as the i5-6500 bundle le.
Am I wrong?

I heard that pascal/polaris is coming out in 1 to 2 months time, would it be wiser to make purchases then?

Would the new releases drop the current gfx card price significantly? Would it be worth the wait? Based on studying previous trends of similar situation, did new releases drop gfx card price greatly?

Build now or when the pascal/polaris is released?

hehehe thanks once again~ Have an amazing day guys!

polaris and pascal gpu are gonna release those top tier gpu...for starters it has been expected tha polaris gpu (dual gpu, i think fuji XT) cos about 1500 usd, so going down a few lower spec, u might need to spare around i think ard 700 usd? for some thing like r9 480?

so far news of release of r9 490 and r7 470 gonna be release, but not in market until maybe like now, about 3 months or maybe longer till 4th quarter of the year if u want those better cooler, like msi, asus etc.

So far if dun mind current technology will be zotac GTX 970 (currently the cheapest fastest GPU), good enough to run current games at 1080p, a little better in running 1440p but if u want high setting on everything with 140MHZ, might as well get GTX 980ti.

1. So if according to prediction the gtx 970 wont drop much in price when the new pascal is released right? Will they come out with mid tier alternatives to gtx970? For example the release of gtx 970 that might have dropped the price of gtx 770?

2. So far based on my research a lot of people and forums recommend i5 as CPU for gaming, but due to my budget restrictions, which i5 would be the most bang for bucks?

3. For example, is the i5-6500, i5-6400, i5-4460 or other i5 etc, more bang for bucks?
Most value for money?

4. Okay, so as referred from the price list, the i5-6500 paired with an ASUS H110M-A D3 cost like $400. What makes the i5-4460 with ASUS Troopber B85 much more recommended than the i5-6500 combo even though the i5-6500 combo is only $15 more expensive?

5. I don't get it, please educate me. Does different mobo makes a huge difference? From the i5-6500 combo, it ranges from $400 up to $1200, who would pay for the $1200 when you can get it for $400?

Thank you once again. I have to say that the people here are amazing and I love you guys. No homo.

Thank you. No homo.

Different mobo offer different features much like condo and HDB. If you need the swimming pool and gym you will definitely pay for it. Different people have their own needs. For average users, most will just go for HDB which is those $400 mobo. You can actually compare the feature of the mobo in the manufacturer website to find out their differences.

brother ronnie,i think you are mistaken. im talking about the i5-6500+Mobo= $400, not the Mobo itself $400. So far the i5-6500+Mobo= $400 is the cheapest i5-6500+Mobo price. How is the cheapest i5-6500+Mobo combination considered average? Just curious.

With the zotac gtx 970 going at $394, it would be a steal right? I mean the zotac gtx 970 is originally $469. Let's say even with the release of the new gtx ?70, it won't drop the zotac gtx original price of $469 to an extreme of $394 right?

There is no WiFi adapter bundled with the motherboard. Info from product model page: https://www.asus.com/sg/Motherboards/B150-PRO-GAMING-AURA/

Despite Skylake being the latest and 2 years younger than Haswell, they do not perform any noticeably faster clock for clock on most games. Haswell will be a much wiser choice to make given your budget.

As you can see, GTX 970 already showing signs of plummeting. TBH, it is already near record low. Several weeks back, the same listing was still selling at $459-469 before discount.

You can continue to wait and see, but i reckon GTX 970 will fly off the shelves quick since no other card come close to its performance at this price segment.

Questions about connecting PC to the internet:

1. What methods are there to connect PC to internet? As far as I am informed, there's ethernet method, PCI or PCIE method ( whats the difference here?), homeplug and any others?

2. Which method is the best way to obtain fastest internet connection?

3. Regarding the ethernet method, all I need to purchase is an ethernet cable right?

4. My modem and internet thingy are all in the living room. My desktop is going to be in another room. In my desktop room, there is this place to plug in the phone cable. Is that where I should plug one end of the ethernet cable into? And the other end into my pc? On the only way is to connect a wire from the living room to my room?

5. I saw this Asus Router thingy. What difference is it with the WiFi Adapter thingy? If I were to get the router, how does it connect? Is it placed at the living room where the modem it? Or is it placed in my desktop room? I know that the WiFi Adapter is attached in the casing at the back. But how about the router?

6. There's this ASUS Dual Band Card that goes for $53, what makes the recommended TP Link Archer to be better?

Questions on the Skylake Processor:

1. I read some stuff online and some people recommended the Skylake series processors because of its newer? What difference does it make as compared to the Haswell series? Take for example some guy say the i5-4460 is better in performance than the it-6400, but it's better to get the i5-6400 because it has better upgradeability/compatability. What does better upgradeability/compatability means? If I were to get the i5-4460, in future it won't be compatible? What makes the Skylake series have better upgradeability? How is it more future proof? What does future proof even mean?

2. Of all the i5s like the i5-4460, i5-4590, i5-4690, i5-6400 and the i5-6500, if I were to use the same graphics card on all these difference processors, would the fps be the same? Which would be the best for the price to performance ratio? Would an i3-6100 be preferred over the i5-4460 for gaming? And in terms of price to performance ratio, would the i3-6100 triumph over the i5-4460 in this case?

Question on the motherboard:

1. Why is the ASUS B85 trooper recommended? The ASUS H81M goes for cheaper. What difference does it make? Also, the ASUS H97M is only 20$ more than the B85, what made you pick the B85 over the H97M?

Ya i know the price refer to the bundle price but just saying the difference in price is mainly due to the mobo because the price of the i5-6500 is a constant. I said the cheapest combination is average because it is just sufficient for the normal users. If you require more features like extra usb ports/wifi/m2 you would have to pay more.

1) PC to internet only with these 2 device : ethernet port (wired connections) and wifi (wireless connections), pci, pci-e method (nv heard of)

2) fastest connections (meaning speed or making sure u connect to internet? still wired connection)

3) that is a definite YES!

4) well if ur hse is new, i think they might have install rj45/ethernet port for u to plug in from ur modem to ur pc by their wiring, else u can get wifi, but if u think homeplug can achieve that max advertise speed, by any means go purchase it, but if ur home wiring is 20 years or later, still can try, but might not reach max speed.

5) Router is a device where u can connect from ONT, which provide ur internet from fibre connections and it other few ethernet cable plug into ur pc. wifi adapter is like ur phone where u just connect wireless. if u gonna get a router for another room, u will need wiring ur ethernet cable from ur modem to ur router and plug to ur pc.

6) I wonder which ISP u using and which plan? Do they even give u a router?

Maybe this might be a better visual for u :

Wa brother, very informative!

If you see from the second picture you shown me right, the black color singtel thing is called router, but in the first picture its called modem. So modem is router ah? Hahaha sorry for noob question.

So if i got the black color singtel thing, means i already have a router? Let's say the modem is the black color singtel thing, then i have to buy a router cause i no router then need connect ethernet cable from router to modem, wouldn't it be better to connect modem directly to pc. Who will go buy router sia? Hahaha.. Under one of the SLS shops pricelist, the Asus routers are listed under wireless, for example the Asus Dual Band Router. If have to connect ethernet cable from the router to the pc, and the router has to connect to the modem, then in the end how is it even wireless sia? In the case of my problem, the modem is in a separate room, so therefore purchasing the "wireless" router wouldn't be of any difference than directly connecting the ethernet cable from pc to modem right? LOL. So much confusion. Thanks bro!

My brain now very pain. So the only best way now to connect desktop to internet when the modem is in a separate room is by the PCI Wifi adapter right? GG. Will the recommended PCI adapter by brother moneyface be a good adapter to go for? The internet speed will jialat ma? Or should i go for some other adapters/routers from the PC Themes pricelist?

why i choose H81M for my rig? because i dont need features that offered in other expensive mobo.. eventho the diff is only $20, but to some of us, it is still expensive..

What bros recommended here is only suggestion based on your budget and used.
For eg, do you need a features of 4X memory slots that offered in H97M or 2X slots is enough as in B85? if 2X slot is enough, why need to waste money to buy H97M?

Nowadays, the functions of a router is so comprehensive that it is actually a modem, switch, wireless access point and a router combined.

An ONT modem is just a device that converts your data bits to signal form. It does not function like a router which directs your data traffic from your computer to the outside world and vice versa. So in layman terms, you will still need to connect to the router then to your PC.

Your question on the wireless router im abit confused. Actually it can do both wireless and wired functions. What do you mean by "then in the end how is it even wireless sia?"

However, if speed is a concern, it is still better to use a homeplug ethernet adapter. Do note that speed varies, depending on your power grid inside your house.

If running a network cable is not an issue then i would opt for cable for best performance.(Nothing beats wired speed)

My home router is in the living room as my Fiber Termination Point is there. I am using the TP-Link Wireless Homeplug+Ethernet adapter to connect my PC in my room to the internet. Speed wise still ok i would say.

Just sharing my 2cents.

seriously =3= wireless modem and wireless router both have the same features just that people using those acronym.

Well I break that middle passage abit:

1. if they really give u ONT only, den u need to buy another router, since they give u a wireless router den u dun need to buy another router. you can directly connect.

2. unless u have a few other device like another pc or wifi device u can buy another router, to get better connections and speed for using it in that room, but if u dun have that many and ur hse aint big, so still dun need to speed that money to buy another router.

3. A dual band wireless router features both a 2.4 GHz band and a 5.0 GHz band, allowing for connections on both bands, and providing higher speeds in general. (5.0 GHz have shorter range and 2.4 GHz have longer range) (speed wise 5.0 GHz have higher speed than 2.4Ghz) at end of the day still depends on the devices u purchase.

last passage for breakdown:

1. Moneyface provide a solutions where u can be connect wireless so u wont have to buy long cables for it.

2. Pci wifi connector provides better speed and connections than usb, but overall still depends on ur house design.

LAST but not least, remember that wired connections is always better than wifi. downfall of it is that wired connections required a long cable and fixtures to prevent any thing from happening to the cable. wireless connections can be unstable at times, but will provide cables free clutter making it more optimal solutions for some people.
