I know it's not true power, but the entire system would rarely breach 200W at full load right? Hence the FSP 300W

Go calculate first. Minimum 275w is needed. A 450w is needed if it is a bronze 80 standard. At max a 475w should only give you with bronze is 360w

If your fsp 300w if lets say if there is bronze 80. Max it can give you 240w.

Dont forget you got to give an options of usb products.

i think can get slightly higher psu , in case they want to upgrade their rig in the future , not enough power .headache. :)

The calculation is always completely off. My old rig is using i7 980X and 5850 uses 450w on load, how can this rig without GPU hit 275w? My HTPC running x4 620 and IGP takes only around 120w on full load, and I highly doubt the i7 4770 (TDP 84) consumes 3x more than the x4 620 (TDP 95). All my numbers are from my wattmeter.

Also, the 80+ is referring to the conversion from AC to DC. If it says 300w and 80+, you don't 300w * 0.8 = 240w PSU. It's 300w / 0.8 = 375w AC drawn from wall, and after the 80% conversion becomes 300w DC.

Update, after some discussion she requested to have a smaller casing.. so thinking of a mini-ATX config.. anything to recommend that will fit the budget and requirements? Thanks!

Just a note: kill-a-watts are not always accurate. I recall a thread on [H] on this from various PSU reviewers. Accurate wattage estimation will need more expensive industrial model types.

Anyway 300W is fine for the setup without a discrete card, as long as the PSU has at least 200W on the +12V. It might even be fine with the lowest end discrete card like a 6450.

On the other hand, I am a little biased against FSP...

Anyway, I still don't see the need for a i7. The price premium for HT is stupid when you can't make use of it.
