Esteemed Gentlemen,
I have a rather quirky question.
I have been working from home for a while, and looks like I will continue to do so for another 6 months or so. At work, we use skype to make calls rather than landline phones, so I thought I would try and get it working.
My setup is simple - I use a gateway to log into an authentication server/slim client and then use the RDP client into my machine at work. I have set the audio (speakers) and recording (mic) to mimic the settings on the parent machine (desktop at home). The authentication server and RDP are run via Citrix. Connections are stable, with no issues.
I purchased a Avantree DG40S USB bluetooth dongle, and paired my Samsung Galaxy buds to it today to try. But... it didn't work.
I have two audio setups on the PC
1. PC - USB - Oppo HA2 - Ruark Audio MR1 Speakers (this is for music)
2. Bluetooth - Samsung Buds
I am using a switching program which allows me to use hotkeys to switch between the audio sources (output only). For input I have the singular mic from the Samsung Buds
When I try and use the skype on my remote desktop - it works initially i.e. when initially paired with my buds. A short while later, it drops the connection and never works again until I forget the buds and pair them again to the PC.
I have tried the following
1. Used the same setup on my laptop (No Oppo here), and the skype worked flawlessly (with an echo though, but that's a different question I think)
2. Removed the Oppo from the devices on the PC and just had Samsung buds
3. In the hope of stabilising the bluetooth on my PC, removed all other accessories (keyboard/mouse)
4. For stabilising again, I assigned specific outputs to different programs which were using the audio streams
However none of these solve my issues. Also, to note, ALL other devices are disabled - including all audio outputs from the realtek thingy on my MB, the monitor speakers etc. The only thing I leave alive is the Samsung Buds and the USB Audio speakers.
I am at a complete loss as to what's happening. The bluetooth connectivity on the laptop works, so that is not the main issue. The Avantree dongle doesn't drop the buds, and if i keep listening to music - they continue to work.
The skype on the PC also "seems" to be working as the sound is always routed through my Speakers (don't have a separate mic to test). Can't use this as (a) wife would get annoyed (b) some calls are confidential and (c) look at point a.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
I am tempted to get a USB - 3.5mm connector off Lazada to hardwire current earphones. Or alternatively get a USB headset if the bluetooth is an issue. However, before I spend ANY more money, I want to ensure that I have exhausted all options.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Happy to provide more info as needed.
