If you need quite a lot of data, the HK$118 tourist SIM will be the cheapest and most value for money. It offers 5GB of data for one week.

If you don't use that much, you may want to consider others, but I haven't researched much and compared their prices.

bought a CSL one2free sometime ago and it worked on my router. to be really sure, ask the staff before you purchase?

i still have the sim card, let me know if you want to loan. the data plans are unlimited. 7-day plan costs $78 if i remember correctly.

Depends on how many days you are going, and which one has a better pricing for you.

The wifi router not cheap since it goes by daily rate. Although it can be shared among you and your family/partner, same can be said if you get a tourist sim card coz you can switch on wifi hotspot for others to use.

Holding a wifi router also would mean keeping it on (and possibly need a portable battery charger to keep it charged) unless you intend to keep switching it on and off for the whole day. So on top of keeping the router charged, you need to keep your phone charged also (if you are a heavy user - keep taking photos/videos/posting on social media). That's two portable battery chargers to bring out.

Also, note that the wifi router for HK from Changi Recommends has daily usage of 500mb, after which it will significantly slow down until the day ends. Tourist sim however, gives you 4G speed (if you buy the 4G sim that is) for whichever package you are buying. (eg. 5DAYS 4G PCCW HONGKONG gives you 4G speed for 1.5gb - for 5 days.)

However, I personally prefer wifi router because I don't need to switch out my local sim card for their sim card. I usually have to remain contactable even when I'm overseas, so having a wifi router means I don't need to bring along a secondary phone. And since I already have a spare battery for my phone, the portable battery charger can be used exclusively for the wifi router.

Still, you'll need to weigh the pros and cons yourself judging on your usage, the users, etc.

I think the Changi Recommends one cannot work in Macau. Maybe you can consider oceanicmanta's suggestion of booking with Klook HK? More data per day (500mb more) and got HK+macau option. BUT, the Klook's option is literally limited to 1gb per day (if you exceed then no more data to use till the next day - need to find WIFI), and it's only at 3g speed.

I managed to survive in Macau for a day trip without data before, haha. But I had to go buy some drinks at Starbucks to get their wifi to locate myself when I was in Taipa. Offline map was a bit wonky and I wasn't able to get a stable GPS connection without data/wifi. Paper maps will always work though, and can always just ask around if one feels lost.

hey, thanks man! i was looking at this klook device as well.. but im thinking will it work if i pay 1 day for the macau-HK device (which is S$5) and then for the balance 4 days, get the HK device (S$2 per day)..

think min. is 2 days rental.

but even if can rent 1 day means u need to return at HKIA on the same day.
