guess most people wont fly hk by scoot
cox timing is not very good
wasted one nite hotel stay

depart from sin : 0130 - 0500
depart from hk: 0650 - 1030

went to hk dec few yrs back by scoot
cox their sales was travel in dec
can fly xmas to new year ...
so happily book @ 120sgd
then go there like zombie lol ...
hotel oni let us check in at 1pm ...
from 7am when we reached hotel, till 1pm, we r just anyhow walk
most shop haven open yet ...
tat time was kinda cold, since is xmas period ...

then checked out at 3am
took a21 from mongkok to airport ...
reached airport 4.30am
super long queue, many "zombie" queue up at scoot counter
some slept on the sitting area ...

Fly Scoot to HK is only for night owls. Some Cathay promotion flights also got such crap timing. 7am only eating places open. Go any place and eat a good breakfast and dim sum.

If feeling bo liao, walk from Mid Escalators to The Peak. Then walk back down or take bus down. By then, 11+/12+ liao. Then go shopping centres turn one round, 1+. Eat lunch... go back hotel check in... nap. At night then go enjoy night life.

Can save one day on checkout day if you don't need to sleep or got late checkout. Sleep in, then do a late checkout, leave barang barang with concierge then go jalan jalan.

When it's time, then go back to hotel to collect your barang barang then sleep on bus again. :D

If going with family, won't even bother to book flights with such odd timing in the first place.

If the elderly can tahan, usually not an issue. Surprisingly, I have seen quite a few elders on such trips.

But for those with kids... Tough lah. Especially if can walk liao. Not enough sleep will throw tantrums at you.

nov is too early to book in my opinion :)
the promo is only for specific travel dates :)

Sq now is around $250 per pax return for Nov. For budget tickets they usually hover around $120+ am I right? Would I be better off just buying sq tickets?

Have to check whether the budget fare includes credit card fees (recent trip on Scoot costs $18), seat selection, check in luggage, meals. They add up to quite a lot of money.

i bought sq for nov. my experience with budget airline not vgd for hk (hassle of clearing immigration at T2 then divert back to T1 via skytrain; at boarding gate is via bus to plane and queue is long like **** cos many kiasu ppl will start queuing almost one hour before take off). not gd if you're returning during meal times unless you plan to eat onboard.

e.g. 2025h depart (in my case)
- check-in counter opens 1825h
- clear immigration and back to T1 about 1855h
- quick meal (super long queue at some fastfood outlets), queue at boarding gate about 1925h
(but of course if not kiasu, can just queue at maybe 1955h, i think up to 10-15 mins before take-off, still have ppl boarding the plane.)

took jetstar to hkg, quite bearable for 3.5 hrs flight. chose scoot (scoot in silence) to tpe (red eye), quite comfortable.

conclusion: i will just go with jetstar for the better timing, not that uncomfortable for 3.5 hrs. my SO is 1.9m tall.
