To be honest, my take is still the same. Go to the telco and try the phones out yourself to determine which suits you best. Personally, I will go for the phone that suits my need the most, and that is the rear camera. The rest like performance is secondary as long as it is reasonably fast since I don't game.
Rear camera wise, I feel Huawei nailed it with the P20 series. Others are trying this and that gimmick but it seems like Huawei is ahead of the game by utilizing the largest sensor on any of the flagship phones currently, which will certainly help in lower light condition. The tripod free nightshot feature is also something really nice. Front facing camera, it is not good as it is fixed focus and color tends to be washed out. Competitors may have better front cameras, but I don't use it frequently since no matter how good it is, it will not be as good as the rear cameras. I even prefer to use my proper camera whenever possible.
Other than that, it is a phone that have good enough performance for most people but with a solid battery life. What I really appreciate with Huawei phones so far, is the willingness of Huawei to provide a decent after sales firmware/ feature upgrade. Sammy based on my experience don't, and even if they do, it is really really slow. To date, my 8 months old Mate 10 Pro have received at least 4 updates via OTA, versus 1 on my wife's Samsung S8. And Huawei is still continuing to add new features back to their older phones like Mate 9.
Another point that I noticed between my Mate 10 Pro and my wife's S8 is, performance have clearly degraded on her S8. When I say degrade, I need to specify that I observed this when installing new apps/ updates. Installation takes 3 times longer than the Mate 10 Pro. There could be other factors involved, so I won't dwell deeper as I am not into running benchmarks and such.
