Take care, most of the people who smoked for 30 to 40 and after listening to doctor advice to stop, got stroked. Sound strange but happened. One of my friend kana also, 60+ got stroke at sleeping. Now wake up but bed ridden.

Congrats to OP. I stopped on 17 June 25.
I've been smoking for 25 years, about 2 packets/ 3 days avg.
On 17 June 25, I wasn't feeling well, and I did not smoke for the 3-4 days.
After I got better, I thought, why not I continue not to smoke, and I manage to hold on till now.

congrats bro.

1 thing i would add is to inform those around you, colleagues / wife / children that you're going to be doing this and your start date, also apologize if you seem irritable during this period. likely there will be moments because you cannot smoke and then get angsty very easily. hopefully those around you will be understanding enough

also, imo the next best time to quit is after you recover from illness, because doctor usually advise when sick try to smoke less or don't smoke. if you can tahan those 3 to 5 days already half the battle won, you just need to carry on another few days and hopefully the urge stops

threw away a box of cigs w/ about 18 sticks left into the chute

have had enuff of it
no such cravings then after

even after a good meal, which were usually a norm to reach for one

unfortunately, didn't record the actual date but probably more than 10 years ago? or 5 above

i have a friend who was a hardcore smoker...about a pack a day. no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t quit. then one day, he lost his voice and went for a check-up. the doctor told him he had throat cancer. from that day on, he auto can quit smoking completely. classic case of not shedding tears until you see the coffin

My secondary classmate started smoking during sec 2 , all the way til 30 plus . Then he decided to quit. He used the cigarettes money to Buy HACKS sweet. Keeping eating sweet to counter the craving .. first week he told me really tough… cannot work , feel giddy. After one week things starts to improve n he managed to kick this bad habit. He told me 2 of his colleagues joined him trying to quit but they failed n go back to smoking. The reason my classmates quit is cigarettes expensive …. Price keep going up.

So i got alot of dm's and quotes asking how I quit smoking. @Foetid

I believe there are some people who smoke/have friends who smoke, as someone who has smoked for over 23 years (start in Sec 3) till now 38 and just quit this year 6 months. I think i'll share so hopefully anyone who wants can follows suit

Now first off. What kind of smoker am I?

Got many diff kinds of smokers., some once a week smoker, some is drink then smoke..

im 1 pack a day smoker. wake up lim kopi smoke 2 stick at the smoking corner, walk back home 1 stick, go to bus stop 1 stick, wait for bus 1 stick, get down bus 1 stick, below office 1 stick... etc etc..

this is just on the way to work, so you can imagine how heavy i am.

first off, you must at least be "open" to the idea of stopping smoking. never ask u to make a decision to continue or smoke, just have an open mind to stopping smoking.

if you don't want to stop, and want to continue smoking then by all means continue, but if u read this means at least u have an open mind right?

so here are the steps i took.

1. Have an open mind and open to quit smoking
2. buy this book https://www.amazon.sg/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/1405923318
3. read this book, it gave me all the info i used to quit.
4. join the stopsmoking reddit for emotional support. https://www.reddit.com/r/stopsmoking/
5. Dont worry if u are unable to quit smoking or restart smoking.
6. Do not vape to take away the smoking urge!

The book is the sole reason i managed to quit. don't peep at the book and flip here and there, u must read it without spoilers.

AND DON'T CHEAPO GET THE PDF AND READ ON YOUR PHONE, GET THE PHYSICAL COPY SO U CAN FLIP the PAGES AND READ IT.

once you have read it, you will be armed with EVERYTHING you need to quit, you should pick a NON STRESSFUL time to quit, i can't say how important this is, this imo is the most important step, dont quit in the middle of audit or product launch, it doesnt mean cannot. just make things harder.

HPB got $50 if u manage to not smoke for 28 days.

my experience

day 1 - hardest day. u should quit on a evening before u quit (so when u sleep it also counts) next day was abit awkward, drink coffee no ciggarettes, all your usual activities something is lacking.

day 2 - even harder. reality starts to sink in that this is my life now, non smoking. sitting at the non smoking section is awkward (but just keep remembering what u read in the book) I feel like i lost my best friend, someone whose always there for me.

day 3 - 5 - insomnia, irritability (thats why i said pick a non stressful time to quit), intense urges to smoke, but just remember it comes in waves. i keep tell myself when the urge come i will tong for 1 hour and if i still wanna smoke after that i will allow myself, after 10-15mins the urge goes away)

all these time, i feel abit sad, depressed, like i lost my best friend.

from day 5 onwards, its easier le. keep out of stressful situations, AVOID ALCHOHOL, and keep remembering the book stuff.

day 7 onwards same thing, remember the book stuff , you will begin coughing up gunk in your lungs, the intense cravings should be manageable by now

day 10-15, sense of smell returns, food smells good, tastes better, when you smell other smokers, you cringe, its really damn smelly.

for myself, after i got past the 10th day, i knew i was never going to smoke back again.

for the rest of the experience..TBC. i need to go back to work, later then type.

Once stopped completely for > 1 year, go declare to your insurers if you had bought insurance policies as smokers.

There will be some premium reductions.

Most importantly, if you smoke again but did not re-inform you insurers you could face no payouts during claims in future.

I find this to be the most effective monitor lizard.

I never touch cigarettes liquor ( not even beer ) in my entire life . Thanks to my strict parents. I am surrounded by friends colleagues that are smokers n some offer me cigarettes which I politely declined. I also have friend jio me go drinking sessions n i told them I don’t touch liquor. They said I live a meaningless life . I ignored them. Self discipline . No one can force me to do something i m against with

I managed to quit as well for a few years already.

I used to smoked 2 packs per day of marlboro lights. From my experience, it is damn difficult

It is up to ur own motivation.
Stay firm and continue to push urself not to smoke.

Keep away from friends that smoke for a period

Tell urself u can do it. Stay strong.
