BTW to those who scare about hygiene.

Almost all the restaurants I went to use uv light to kill germs on the kitchenware. They will also provide you a bowl plus a boiling pot of water for you to sanitize again yourself.

The food are cooked at high temperature, don't think germs can survive that. :s13:
Aiya these people still recalling the stories from uncles and aunties who went on a China tour in the 90s. The Chinese are more scared of Southeast Asia hygiene standards nowadays

actually China is ok.. except for these:
- toilet is squat
- some places the urinal is what u see in 1980s..
- shopkeepers dun like it when u start taking pictures and videos... including supermarket
- their PAB and PMA are faster than what our lazy boomers use
- the incessant spitting and smoking everywhere. As if they never learnt anything from 2020 to 2023

for me no issues. I went Yunnan in December and really loved it. only issue is the restrictions on Google/meta and my lack of Chinese

Have you even been to China? I admit the last time I was there was 10 years ago but even then I don’t feel any restrictions.
err... 战狼外交started in 2014 lor. It was gradual as much of the entertainment are already in the pipeline.
Advertisers dun want to lose their investments. Around 2017~8 the atmosphere had already shifted.
You'll find entertainment, media they produce, is of higher quality but without a soul.

My relatives and friends went there with an agenda, once met they happy ler.
Like cheap food and sight seeing. Maybe the things I crave is something more - 民族自信。
This does not come from GDP, high rise buildings, how many missile they own... It comes from the
smile and the pride in everything they do aside from making money. What I feel is their
fragile hearts breaking every time a criticism is thrown their way. Very sad.
In contrast, of cos we have Taiwan. Their confidence is astounding.

What is making you not to visit China.

Note this is not IB thread hokays?
So leave the political hate/patriotism stuff off this discussion :)
Never really want to but then was offered a deluxe 15 days trip that I could not refused. Sadly the occurrence of Covid and the trip was cancelled. So, until now, I had yet to step on my ancestor's soil.

Ok so you have not been to China. I admit the last time I was there was more than 10 years ago and back then I appreciated the straightforwardness of the Chinese people. If you did something to piss someone off they will tell you immediately, no beating around the bush.

What I did notice these 2 years though is many colleagues and relatives going on self guided trips to China. Before they went they were treating it just like any other destination. Change money, make sure alipay works etc. After they came back, every single one of them started planning the next trip to China. There was 1 colleague who had already booked flights to see Sakura in Japan change her flights to later in the year because she wanted to go back to China to see 樱花.

If you ask me what I believe, I believe that what we read in the western media only shows what is not going well in China but intentionally leave out what is good. Oh and if I have to choose I prefer to travel to China and watch my tongue than to travel to the US and constantly look over my back for someone wanting to rob me because I am Asian.

Me

I will not and not interested in China

I am not into country that restrict personal freedom and blocking freedom of speech, constant brainwashing

Imagine I go to a country, cannot use FB and whatapps, cannot use cash.....zzzzz

even Vietnam is not like that as a communist country

dun understand why so many girl like XiaoHongShu and go china, all kenna brainwashed alrdy

No freedom one, a lot of app does not work in China

This is the type of people who never go before but yet dare to say things with such confidence.
This reinforce the idea that people don't know how to think for themselves and take in what ever rubbish the media throws at them.

It is even sadder to know that majority of the people are like that.

No money to go.
Cannot afford.
Since when Singaporeans worry about politics of destination country when they travel? Irrelevant.

Sadly it's not just US.
Most western countries are not safe even in big cities at night.
My European colleagues who came to Singapore recently also commented that they are afraid of their teenage or young adult children going out till late. Some that came here to work for a period of time said that it is really nice to walk in the streets at night and don't need to keep looking over their shoulders.
