Quite relieved to see that 4gb is sufficient even for 4k on the gtx 970.

4K sufficient for 4K? I don't think so lols, I can easily used 4.5gb (Without MSAA)

And 970 only have 3.5gb haha

If u look at the amd trend, fury x is 4gb nia

Meaning raw power is more impt then vram, yea more ram is better @ rendering, but no raw power also no use

Try up 270x to 8gb see can challenge gtx970 anot :s13:

DX12 allow the use of shared memory across multiple GPU where SLI/Crossfire are meaningful at 4k and above resolution( at least minimum of 30fps).

So for DX12 games, 4 gig VRAM on cards for CF/SLI can be good enough. Only thing, developer have to cater for it since it's niche.

We are still waiting for a single GPU, which is finally powerful enough to drive 4k without dipping under 30 fps@max settings in AAA games, to be released. Maybe at 2016 or 2017 with HBM2 cards.

Meanwhile, should watch out for the marketing spin.

I feel most users will find 4GB more than sufficient for their usage considering that most only have a 1080P kind of monitor. I believe even 1440P should run well without a sharp decline in performance due to lack of VRAM. At least this is for my case. ;)

For new games in 2016 and beyond, DX12 has memory stacking so you can double the VRAM by using two GPUs.

For example, in the below SS of the DX12 demo, you can see that only 1 GPU core of the GTX 690 is being used but the memory of both GPUs are being used.
