i will be travel to tokyo thru travel agency group and how much do i need to bring ?
for 7 days

usually travel agency will advise how much to bring during trip briefing.

for package tour, if all ur meals are covered, then u just need to budget for shoppingand snacks. shopping depends on what u want to buy, so set budget for urself, not enuf can always use credit card.
for snacks, u probably wun have opportunities to spend much also... $50 a day shld be way more than enuf for an ice cream here and a cream puff there, and sushi+cup noodles for supper

as much as you can. hehe.

no really, japan can be totally expensive, especially since you're going to tokyo. it'll be a regret if you're not going to maximize your trip - and sometimes, most activities to let you experience japan will require you to pay (like eating, shopping, going to entertainment areas).

i think $1.5k is enough if you're traveling with travel agency~ u don't have to rly spend everything though. bring the amount just to be safe. there are cheap markets in japan you can visit during your free time~~~

Near Station? Which station? Tokyo Station? Shibuya? Shinjuku

maybe $150-200 per night

Not sure which station yet, maybe near Ginza or Shiodome...

Thanks! Will take note of the amount...

Actually most big tickets items are known before hand. The unknown are probably food and shopping. Eats simply and frugally, 3000yen per day is enough.4000 to 5000yen is best. Transport cost you can use hyperdia to work out the cost on travelling. You will quickly get an idea how much you will spend.

Hi guys, am planning to visit tokyo at least once in my life:)
I will be visiting with my wife and 3 year old toddler.

I would like to have a fuss free trip, without the need to travel for so long. I hope to stay near to where most attractions are. Basically shopping and experiencing the life in japan. No need to visit tourist attractions etc.

Anyone can recommend any hotel? Hopefully not far from the airport and walking distance to shopping centers etc.
thank you.

You want to be near tourist attractions but there's no need to visit them? Usually folks will base themselves at Shinjuku area. Sunroute Hotel maybe a good choice there. But walking is something you cannot avoid in JP. No matter how convenient they are, you need to walk alot.

In terms of min transfer and quick access, Ueno maybe a good choice, as there's direct train from Narita and one of the shortest train ride from the airport too. It has its share of attractions in its surrounding area like Ueno Zoo, Ameyoko, Asakusa, SkyTree etc.

I am worried about food and shopping :(:(
Food because I think sushi is gonna be expensive but good and I don't want to miss them. Checked last night, Tsukiji market Sushi Dai, omakase menu is ¥3,900.
Shopping also. I afraid to think how much gundam/anime stuffs I am going to buy there. Maybe hoot a prime lens for camera too.

Thanks. Will need to do my sums. :D

airports are usually situated away from the city center and tokyo is no exception. haneda is about 30min by train from tokyo city, while narita is about 1hr away. so it is better to stay within the city, instead of near airport. as suggested by cpuer, shinjuku and ueno area in tokyo city are good areas to stay in.

btw, this thread is for discussing budget... u may wanna start a new thread for ur questions

there is only that many gundams u can carry back.. :s13:

i usually budget 10,000yen for gundam and other model kits. that is enuf to buy 2-3 MG or 4-5 HG kits, which is all i can carry. anyway, u can always use credit card for gundam and camera lens

agree on the CC part. Its pretty competitive. Some CC gives a few percent rebate on overseas spending, eg Everyday card gives 2%. Check out your CC promo.

I suppose gundam is significantly cheaper over there, plus some editions which we don't see here?

yup.. much cheaper. Yodobashi Camera store sells gundam kit at 30% off the recommended retail price (stated at the side of box above the barcode).
for example, RG kits are typically 2500yen and yodobashi will sell for 1890yen which is about SGD24

RRP for RG is ¥2500? That's like S$30+? How come yesterday i go OG, RG Freedom/Destiny were selling like $50+? Sg prices so inflated?

yup. in sg, the dept store price is fixed de... they use a rate of about 0.021 of the yen RRP. so for a 2500yen kit, OG, metro etc will sell for $52.
hobby shops such as HAG will sell for about 20% off this price, which is still quite ex.
it is maybe cheaper to order online, even with the shipping cost. or just wait until go japan and buy

Gundam Front Tokyo sells their Gundams at retail price. The only good thing to buy there are GFT kits, the rest just go to Akihabara at below retail price.

Bought my RG Exia at 1890yen with tax, it's like S$23 converted.
