Richard only started feeling this way about life when he was diagnosed with cancer.
If he never had cancer I doubt he would have said all this.
I am also not convinced about his intentions with doing those talks. Was it to once again put himself in the spotlight and get acknowledgment and validation?
Interesting they even gave him such a platform to do those talks.

Earlier, I was in the library working on my school assignment when I spotted a kid beside me who seemed to be an NUS student. What struck me about this kid was how materialistic he was — LV wallet, Longchamp bag, iPhone 17 Pro, Apple Watch Ultra, MacBook Pro, and AirPods Pro. From head to toe, he was probably carrying around 5–6k worth of stuff.

He hasn’t even stepped into the working world yet, and he’s already behaving like this.

why judge? Their life. Their circumstances. You shouldn't bother.

one of my ex-staff. comes in, leaves, does not say a word. sits in corner of the lab, takes instructions/job requests via email, producing excellent work. many know he exists, but many have not met him.

he was a special guy, very different.

TBH, his work involved people, but he made it such that he didn't interact.

Right now, i can only think of 1 job that involves minimal interaction. Can't think of any job with no interaction.
It is quite common for a Japanese employee in Japanese company.
We know he is there, just he isnt there.
Job gets done and he knock off on the dot.
Not many ppl know what he does outside of work.
But got rumors he lead a happy and fulfilling outside life.

Nobody envy me.. My entire outward appearance look poor :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
I envy you bro. I have no idea how you look like.
But I like your description of your life. How you go to work do nothing and make 50k a month.
You investment portfolio that increases by $500k a year.

Envy you bro! :D

Need money, I can manage my own expectation, but I can’t manage all the jiao lang at work, and I’m also pretty sure I’ll be happier not working
I feel u bro. So hav u bcom happier? Chg a job or totally stop work to b happier?
Think first step is to buy a car. Life in sg without a car is brutal.
I think otherwise. I own car b4. Doesn't really make me happier, only more convenient slightly in travelling.
Sounds to me more like it's not work. It's having to deal with people and their expectations etc.

If you could do work that doesn't have to deal with people you won't feel so negative? I know it's easier said than done to find work that involves no people.
I would say if u wk in a place w like-minded ppl, u can or may b happy in wk. Even so, ppl do chg. Ppl may leave.

1 of my colleag also seldom rarely talk. She deal w some data collection n reports. Only talks to staffs when u find discrepancy in data. Quite envy her.
知足才能常乐
Only one part of happiness. To b happy involves so many things n ppl in yr life.

I would add in - 放空,释放自己七情六欲。

Or parents rich. Watever it is, s long he feel happy, in tat instant or period, tat is his life. If he can afford y not.

Not exactly true.
Depends what your expectations are.
Happiness is when you have met your expectations or exceeded them.
Only you will know truly what your real expectations are.

That's good. One key is to be true to yourself. Be able to tell yourself you are good enough. Life is good enough.
so if i have low expectation, i will always be happy as the outcome will exceed my low expectation

yeah but if you set low expectations that you don't feel good about then it won't work cos you know is not your true expectation.

Hence need to be honest to self and know when that line becomes greed and when it becomes lying to yourself.

Sadly what works for him may not works for you.
We each have our own weakness and strength, our anticipations and expectations, our skepticisms and unsureness☹️
now i stop trying to read or view chicken soup, rather find what suit me best, and go for it
At very least, if i fails, i only got myself to blame

That's the point. Everyone should find their own expectation point.
