I worked in the same industry and same role for almost 10 yrs. I have the experience and skill sets but I am not good at talking, presenting myself and displaying leadership quality.

Also I lacked some career luck I guess. I've seen some colleagues who are even more introverted & bad at communications, not extremely strong in their work too but still managed to land themselves a leadership position

I really hope to make some progression in my career, even just move up 1 level. Any advice on how to break into your first managerial or team lead position?

Thanks in advance! 🙏

You may need to reflect a little every day... When u r so experienced and not in leadership role means there is a real gap that no one is telling u...u yourself may not even able to discover it.

Even if u have trusted colleagues whom u can ask for advice,.may not give you accurate info too... So need more experience working e others, pay more attention to politics in general (politics is the art of hypocrisy).. have the ability to read between the lines, and know what the real meaning of the words people say etc... if u read political gossips u can pick these skills up (like what A says actually means B, what A meant is actually what A did not say etc)

Easiest way to find out is to speak with your immediate manager. Express your intention to take up a managerial position, find out what it takes to progress within the same company, then ask for opportunities to prove yourself.

Hard path: Go apply toastmasters to learn speaking and build up self confidence.

Easy path: tang ping, pick up court chiobus skills and enjoy your rental money

Are you good at your own work? Did your bosses recognize your contributions? It's not always about career luck, although it may form part of the reason.
