The only way to master Cantonese fast is to mix with people who only speak Cantonese.
Singaporean who are Cantonese usually will speak Chinese or English n not Cantonese much so you need to go to Hong Kong or get a Hong Kong girlfriend

Cantonese get to know another Cantonese around, they will switch to speak Cantonese regardless of country of origin.

I am Cantonese.

I am Cantonese too but as what I know most Cantonese in Singapore will mixed some Cheese or English in their conversation unlike those from Hong Kong as maybe because due to the speak mandarin campaign.

And also because of that Singapore telecast Homg Kong Drama during the early days in dubbed Chinese.

Its akin to HKers above 30s speaking Mandarin; half way they throw in cantonese word instead of Chinese. Depends on their interaction with the mainland, not many can hold a proper Chinese conversation unless they had worked in the mainland for a long time.

scold bad words ar

Not easy to learn except for the general few words. I came across a few HKers who could swear fluently in a string of sentences. Not just short bursts of words. It comes to a point where it sounded like poetry .

perhaps age group made a difference, in my company, we have identified each other, including naturalized hongkee. therefore formed a consensus including cleaner aunties .

feel weird to greet each other in other languages in non formal setting.

in a formal setting, default English.
we mostly native Cantonese speakers, hardly need to mix other languages to express.
and I am very particular of this.

I only did one meeting conducted all in Cantonese at Shenzhen when I was working with a hong Kong based OEM.

never throw face, as I won't mix localized Malay/hokkien into the conversation.

I pay $6 a month to subscribe to the Hong Kong tvb channel .

my keyboard setting is set to Cantonese, traditional Chinese.

Cantonese with pride.

Yes because they are used to speaking Cantonese.

But maybe their Cantonese accent for their newer generation people no more there liao as more ATs in HK after 1997.

So that's why their TVB Drama also getting more n more AT artist who are not really fluent in Cantonese.

Listen to Cantonese songs
and look at their lyrics
A lot of AMDK learn via this route
when they were stationed
in HK last time...
It will be so much easier to
pick up as a Chinese
since you should be able to
understand Chinese characters
although it is 繁体字 ...
IMHO.
Some tricky parts but if can learn to master this song.
Quite many Youtube cover versions from others trying their best.
