Proven to make a loss if you started in recent years.

If you started around 20 years or 10 years back, result is good but your profit is decreasing in recent years.

thanks alot! so i could make a lost on ETF despite it being a group of companies?

I would recommend Buy with REITs & hold it until TS ORD. While serving NS collects dividends & reinvest it. Given the low PE & 5-7% dividend yields which are attractive short term.

from what i understand , REITS risk is sky high? correct me if im wrong

Dividend investing is better than etf investing in Singapore, but have to beware of property price depression due to political issues if you choose REIT.

at ur age, u got time on ur side. Be adventurous. Spread ur 10K into 2 or 3 stocks based on wat u think will be a boom in 10 yrs time. 10K can easily be recouped but u cant turn back time. Can be tech stocks, medical, agriculture, oil, alternative energy etc.. make a bet n take ur chances!

figured i have to something with my shitty results :s13::s13: what do u think its the safest way for me to do smth? i can take risk but i certainly do not wan to jump bedok river:(

theres really no rush to go throwing ur money into something right away, like a kiplinger guy once said,"dont be fooled or tricked by ur mind or emotions into buying something that "cannot wait".maybe do some studying and research first, read a couple books or blogs, then figure out what strategy u would like to take.i recommend "stocks for the long run" by jeremy siegel and "four pillars of investin" by william bernstein....."security analysis" benjamin graham and "Investing in REITs" by ralph block or some other recommendations by the other guys.

for me im currently in 30 percent US equities etfs,10 percent us real estate etf 30 percent sg dividend stocks and sg reits 30 percent oil etfs and a bit of cash.

ai yo i notice all these ginna pi 10k want to ask forum ask ppl what and how to invest.

Have already said many times, u come and ask when u have your 1st mill, then we can start to talk about allocation and etc. These 30-50k just save it for your daily life expenses. Within 1-2 yrs it will be gone anyway.

Go create something with value, like make yourself useful for the working society, or create businesses that help people in whatever ways, invest in yourself, the money will come later.

Disagree to the Max.

It's a good time to dabble a bit now to pique interest and learn, as long as he doesn't leverage in things he does not understand

Unless Ts has no interest in picking up knowledge to learn how to read financial statements ,but even then he can simply invest in index funds. Don't wait until 30 years old than try to understand how to invest... By that time you will feel Time is not on your side and take unnecessary risks

Yea, leverage, trading on margin borrowing.. Your returns can be exponential, but so can your losses.

If you think you really want to stock pick, I think best way is to start small first. Pick a quality company at a fair price to invest. You will learn along the way. Try to keep away from heavily indebted companies that requires large capital expenditures to maintain their biz. But this method has its risk, you may still pick a sheety stock... Which comes to the alternative (or you could do a mix of both)

Index funds. Gives you a diversified holdings - youre very unlikely to lose money in the long run. As long as you have a long time horizon.

But before you invest make sure you have emergency funds and have insurance cover to protect your downsides..
