guys, whats with the advance task manager/killer? Do they really increase your battery life? Is it necessary for HTC Legend Android 2.1? Please explain this to me thanks!

read http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2602787&page=60
and page 61.. there are several other discussions in the HTC section that tells you about the Advance Task Killer.. some say it's good as it can save battery, others say Android manages the memory differently..

Just make sure you don't kill things you want to keep running e.g Alarm. If you killed it, your alarm will not go off at your specified time since it's closed. go look around HTC Desire's thread too, there were some discussion about the ATK there too..

thks for ur reply.

guess i'll not do it on my own. once bitten, twice shy.

i actually have 1 extra matt sceen protector that i bought.. can sell you if you want @ $8 which is what i paid for..

it's not very hard to apply the SP yourself. if you suay suay trap dust behind, you can use scotch tape to clean later on :)

i saw from somewhere saying the android 2.1 will auto off those programs if they inactive too long. is this true?

hm.. the nature of Linux programming is that it'll keep as many programming in the background at a low level.. those program don't really drain battery but is still running so it'll be quicker when you need to really run it again.

The Android system will automatically kill inactive programs when it requires more memory for new applications that you start..

But, if your phone suddenly drains more battery then usual i.e drain very fast within 2hours on standby(doesn't happen frequently), you just have to restart the phone and it should be fine.

so for my case, HTC Legend with Android 2.1, is ATK needed?

Desire runs Android 2.1 too, so those topics discussed over that thread most of the time applies to Legend..

what i said was relevant to the Legend. Android programming is based on Linux :)

and i'm using Legend too

i think i wont be using bah lol. i've had done research on task killer and most people says that task killer will decrease your phone performance over time.

i am using advanced task manager..i believe it will definately increase batt life by killing off those idle apps running when you dont use it.free up memory too.

just set the apps that you will use often not to be "killed" by the task killer or task manager.

my always running app are clock, battery, task manager and music.rest are always set to auto kill to save batt.

i have it installed in the phone so that i can see what's running and manually kill some when i feel there's a need to (like when I suspect certain program is draining my battery) but I don't regularly run it and doesn't have it set to auto-kill

A note,

I was in 3 countries over the past few days, and testing Legend (with Navigation GPS) at :
1. Singapore ... works well.
2. Malaysia Kuala Lumpur .... it worked!!
3. Thailand Bangkok ... works!!

Used the Brut version of Navigation.

Had all my iPhone friends looking at my Legend with ENVY. :D

I installed the Brut Navigation, but have a few questions:
1. How do we get the offline maps?
2. Do we have to login to use?

Thanks!

Seems like most silicon softcases are either opaque or translucent, wonder if there is any silicon softcases available that are transparent? Would be nice coz u can still showcase the monoblock aluminium body.

i'm only planning to get SP for my legend. yes, it would be great to showcase the sexy aluminum body of our legend. :s13:
