What are some people do is take one route up and other route down.
I only did the same route up/down as i wasnt familiar enough with the place.

Huangshan has many peaks at the top.
It isnt like a small area at the top, unlike other mountains.

The cable car brings u to the "base" of those peaks.
From there, there is a lot more stairs climbing to get to various peaks. Some peaks are higher than others n also might have to backtrack on some peaks.
The provided maps of the peaks kinda suck too.
Hope u can find a nice map.

I stayed at Jade Screen hotel which was actually very close to the cable car.
A better idea is to stay at Beihai (around the center) or Panyulou/Baiyun.

The altitude of Huangshan isnt actually very high compared to most mountains.

Really like the early evenings and mornings there.
So peaceful and beautiful, just like in those wuxia movies. lol

Thank you....looks like it is clearer now....seemed like there are many peaks.
Quite impossible to visit all the peaks....unless Im a local there....lol.

The last one I been to is Baiyun Mt in GZ....which is 384m at Moxing Peak.
Small compare to HS.

Nice pic....looks like I must get a better camera too.

I was there like 10yrs ago. New Scenic spots are being made more accessible to public during that time. the tiny placed I stayed changed bedsheets like 2 twice a year! damn its nasty! water cost 10X the priced when U are up the mountain.
chances of rain and fog is over 60%.

from the looks of the map looks like it will be a fun for a return visit at least this time it will be shorter commute. thank you for sharing!

Going to 普陀山 and 九华山 next year. Any advice?

Never been there. General guide applies throughout China attractions.

From drivers, touters, restaurant/ room staff outside the park, they have a inter-referral commission system within their community to support each other's livelihoods. And these places open price no blink eyes. There is always some extra-curriculum unofficial attractions that they jointly dragon/lion/phoenix about, getting you to go. (not pushy but very sophisticated in their talk/ ways). Just politely tell them you've been there previously.

Also do not leak you're Singaporean, say Malaysian or Taiwanese safer, and speak in those accents if you can. Best ask them guess, and agree...haha

Stay within the park if there is accommodation, if you know you can't finish touring the park within a day. Nothing beats waking up to serene views, before the rowdy tourists arrive by the coaches. Though hotels within are more costly than foothill hotels, the repeated time, re-entry park fees, cable/bus fares the next day is not worth it.

Official hotels will be 2-3x more than prices for Chinese nationals. Homestays, no discrepancy, $40-50/room, provides morning breakfast (usually porridge), dinner optional. Despite whatever they say about heritage sites no hotels/accommodation allowed, homestays with the villages def. have, ask the peddlers/makan huts.

Like that time in JZG (strictly no overnight), 5pm park rangers were chasing tourists out of park. We just have to quote the villager's name and enjoy the park to ourselves in total tranquility, jin song. The rangers also care about the villagers' livelihood, let them earn some side income with mutual benefits. I believe they enjoy their free homecooked lunches/vegetables from the villagers too. After clearing tourists, the rangers were even kind enough to give us a lift to the village we're staying.

Read TW forums, they have all the updated tips and good contacts there. From there, you will also get 'secret' detailed 3D maps of the park. Again, the many maps/guides they sell are very simplified with advertising, even the official map. They need to support their local tour guides, without giving out too much info. Read other HS threads here too.

Don't worry about not being fully-equipped before going into the mountain parks, peddlers go on foot/huts sell everything you never tot you need, on the cheap.

I would encourage you to go Huangshan since it's considered near your base Shanghai, rather than this 2 less-known parks. A slow midnight overnight sleeper train from Shanghai takes you fresh 8am to HS city. Train back daytime is only 4 hours. Don't take the 8-9 hrs coach back to SH. I'm looking forward to going HS third time in 12 years..haha.
