Can't wait for it.. :s12:
BTW no wireless charging function?

I don't like wireless charging because I've read that the slow charge of WC can cause spikes to appear in the gel which might eventually puncture the insulator. Supercharging by Huawei, I am more than happy with.

These chinese companies, especially Huawei, is already at the forefront of innovation. Think about it, dual lens, dual SIM on flagship phone, fastest charging, biggest battery 4K mAh (until now Sammy can't reach that without exploding). Right now the massive deal is a neural network on your phone to do the fast image and other sensor analysis.

The dual lens especially, is now implemented by Andy Rubin the gadget king in the Essential phone - the RGB+monochrome system is superior according to him - but Huawei is already on its 3rd generation.

But understandably, this pace of innovation is not for everyone, but allow us crazy gadget freaks our enjoyment!

First, let me say that I am against new innovation take up myself, simply because of cost of entry and accessibility. This is regardless of US, Korean or Chinese company.

Second, there are far and few compatible accessories for the Huawei fast charging technology (forget what is the name). No doubt it is charging faster, but what is the use when you have a high tech stuff without being able to access it? The same reason I resisted buying the Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Meizu phones due to lack of accessibility.

Third, as for the bigger battery of 4000mah.... hahaha you do know that the S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus and Note 7 all surpassed Huawei battery endurance with smaller batteries and lighter weight? Let me tell you the truth, that is their Kirin 960 chipset is not power efficient enough, tested at Anandtech review. If Huawei is smart (which I think they are), they would have a smaller battery by Mate 10, lighter while retaining the same profile.

Fourth, for Dual Lens on Flagship, yes it is good, but seems like a rushed implementation that shortchanged some early adopters of P9 and P9 Plus where it is first implemented and went to Mate 9 and P10 as second generation. Now going to third generation within 2 years....

Fifth, Dual SIM. Ok I will agree with you on this. But I think LG V20 win this with its Dual SIM plus a dedicated slot for micro sd card slot.

Thanks for your great post!

Understand your reluctance to adopt new innovation. It's counter to my own desire to be the earliest adopter for everything, but I understand your position.

Huawei's ultra fast charging technology - Supercharge - works well enough for me, and if you don't have a supercharger in front of you, it still uses USB type C power delivery charging, no issue with that. I bring my Huawei supercharger with me in my travel bag and believe me, I'm glad I didn't resist this innovation.

The previous generation Huawei Mate 9 is lighter than the Note 8, with a bigger battery, so I don't know why you think Huawei needs a lighter battery. Conversely, power capacity is very important to me, so I would gladly carry a large capacity battery even if it's heavier (it's not).

The Kirin 960-based phones had great battery life in real use, as most of the users of the Mate 9 will attest to, and the new 970 would have a even more advanced 10nm process, PLUS it has a neural-net computing engine (AI CPU) to optimize AI processes to save even more power - this remains to be seen and I'm very excited.

The dual lenses are undergoing very very fast evolution of computational photography. The P9 cameras when released were state of the art and already performed very well vs other brands at that time, and when the Mate 9 new RGB+mono system came up it performed superbly as well. There is no `shortchanging' because everybody was getting the state of the art at that time, and as new technology unfolded Huawei didn't hold back and keeps on improving with the new tech as it comes. For those of us who choose not to resist technology, we're happy as kids in the candy store. 3rd generation in 2 years is very happily rapid progress!!!

The dual SIM configuration is now a matter of mechanical implementation only, and the electronics fully allow dual SIM+card. I like dual SIM+MicroSD configuration, it's the best and I agree with you totally on that, but it's not essential but very nice to have.

Hi MichaelTan,

Thank you for your constructive sharing.

Can you point out where it is stated USB PD is workable on the Mate 9/P10/P10+ or up coming Mate 10? When I mean USB PD, I mean ability to charge faster than the 12W 2.4A x 5V speed, example 15W charging by having 5V and 3A.

I think I didn't say Huawei Mate 9 needs a lighter battery. What I simply mean is other phones achieved similar or better battery performance with a lighter battery. Or in other words, Mate 9 needs more battery capacity to get almost similar battery life. I think you miss the point battery efficiency. Kirin 960 is not tuned to be power efficient. No doubt from a consumer point of view, it doesn't really matter as long as it charges fast (but limited Super Charging power bank).

As for short changing, if I am an early adopter, I am short changed as the 3rd generation came out so fast. I spent early money. This is why I said it does not benefit me to adopt early. But it is almost time to get a Mate 10, provided it is power efficient than Mate 9.

And, Note 8 is 5g heavier than Mate 9.... but screen is much larger... so don't self destruct on this point. S8 Plus is already lighter and more power efficient.

Good post again. To clarify, Mate 9 supports Profile 1 of the PD spec, 10W in a pinch. That's much slower than the supercharge charging but useful in a pinch.

All in all, I'm happy that it's about time to get a Mate 10, and I don't want Huawei to hold back any innovation, please load us up with the latest gen of everything. Especially the AI NPU, it's so exciting to have something so truly new to play.

Singapore is treated as tier 1 country by Huawei. So, announcement is Oct 16 and shipping should be November.

Should not hold back, give me USB PD 15W then we can start talking

If Huawei supports more USB-C PD profiles (which very few chargers do) I don't want it to be at the expense of their faster Supercharge technology, which delivers 22.5W of charging power making it one of the fastest charging cellphones ever. In my use when I'm on the go in overseas trips, it's really invaluable and I can't do without it.

There's improvements though on the horizon. The latest firmware of the P10 already tested by some people to support USB-C PD Profile 2, which is 18W, Profile 2: 18 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 12 V @ 1.5A). If you read the testing carefully, it requests 9V 2A but the Google charger gives 9V 0.9A - which may signify a protocol issue but in near future the PD spec will probably be implemented better both by device and charger manufacturers.

Until then, the Huawei supercharger works great, and (relatively) cheaply available from Huawei service center for extra units, so I'm happy with that.

more from the leaks mill:

very cool smart color selection for lockscreen text... can this be a very small demonstration of the phone's AI capabilities?

Another leak not shared here yet, is the 3 variants of Mate 10 available, Normal, Pro and Lite.

http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/huawei-mate-10-pro-blanc-mate-10-lite-alps-evan-blass-1748829

So when you see specs and not sure which version it is, just note that, if the spec seem low, it's for the Lite, if it's very conventional but very respectable, it's for the Normal, and if it's new fangled like 2:1 screen it's probably gonna be for the Pro. All this is historically speaking, of course.

Sorry to post so much I am so excited.

If anyone is wondering why have AI on your phone, you can see this excellent video by Google.

chinese talk in detail:

angmo talk general coding techniques:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r9w3V923rk

All this is interesting because rumors say that Huawei 970 neural net processor supports Tensorflow.
