Then it seems to be a better choice than the rear.

Front is always a better choice.
I have one with sensor at rear. every time I need to read a message, I have to pickup the phone (from table, bed etc), unlocked it then start to read.

does mate 10/pro have double-tap to wake? currently I use double-tap to wake my sony Xperia z5 which I also have secure device nearby to unlock automatically upon wake, so I don't need to use fingerprint or enter pin...

I love the double-tap to wake function. hope it is also in the mate 10 pro.
