Is not gimmick n much improved over previous S6e. If one uses it is quite an useful tool
I had both Mate8 m S7e
Overall S7e is a better performance phone, very much better camera n it's display is nicer too. Only it cannot match Mate8 battery life ( for me 10-11 hours SOT) vs S7e (7-8).

Ahh someone with 2 phones on hand can do a better comparison since the usage pattern would be similar.
So if get mate 8 is just for the battery life but aint the Lenovo 5000mAH phone has even better battery life and much cheaper?

How to disable telco bloat apps in Mate8?
For samsung phones, i keyed some number combi in dial pad and switch the code to international and all telco apps will be gone. Can we do that with Mate 8?

Did you see if you can disable them from App setting?

They do have Package Disabler app for Samsung phones but they dont work on other phones tho..

For Samsung they call it CSC codes. I changed to stock and it seem to format the phone and got rid of telco apps, no need to disable them. I also think using stock CSC will get ota upgrades faster instead of under mercy of telco

Does mate8 have this I can use?

yea, CSC are customer sales codes which are pretty much customer bundle apps/settings. So in a multi-CSC firmware, you can get to choose which bundle. Do note that these multi CSC are also specific to their sales region, meaning it does not contain every bundles that Samsung released worldwide. OTA will only be faster if the sales region that you choose has OTA ready to be released.

Using the phone currently

battery life is extremely good, can charge relatively fast also

But software is actually quite buggy, and quite irritating when they keep prompting me to close down applications which they feel are draining batteries like whatsapp

Oh and no idea how to disable vibration when typing a message like sms or whatsapp

upon prompt, just drag down the bar and choose 'don't remind me again'.

the vibration can be disabled within the keyboard settings.

I had mate 8, lenovo x3, s7e....all fare well for batt.l (i play games heavier) for sure, mate 8 might be better by a little. On top, all 3 processor are top notch. On the lenovo 5000mah or zenfone max...its processor package is weak in comparsion (ok for user with basic needs)

Ok m8 dont have telco bloat at all, guess that is pro and cons of china phone (lower resell value). on b170 firmware, no issue with delayed notification. Most apps can be uninstalled besides some google and huawei apps. the camera image processing is horrid. i changed the theme to mocha, the gold is too bling.

It is a good value phone comes with 2 years warranty and 1st year crack screen replacement, packed with screen protector applied and pleather case. :s12:

Faster than my HTC honor
Fast finger print log in

Dislike
Certain widgets cannot change size, can only change the overall "size" of the screen in order to get my desired widget sizing.

I prefer the old fashion type of home pages to be widgets only and all the apps icon in the back room.

You can use 3rd party launcher.

There are many launchers available in the play store. The most famous and popular one is "Nova Launcher". If you like it, you can buy the "Prime" version. :D

Thanks! I got the prime version but doesn't seems to be able to set it as the default launcher. Tips please.
