I accidentally dropped my Mate 9 into a pail of water while watering my plants 2 days ago. Needless to say my headphone died immediately.

I brought it to the servicing centre at Somerset to repair today. Luckily they changed the motherboard for me and it is now working. The servicing took less than half a day.

That is very kind and nice of Huawei :)

Is yours a new set it you bought second hand?

Cos mine, I used the replacement already and it does say Usage Count : 1

Either that, or the 1 really does mean that you're entitled to 1 replacement and it's not a count of whether you used it already or not.

i bought it brand new on launch day. i think if this is the case, then what you said makes sense; entitled to 1 replacement and it's not a count.

Quite fast servicing. Was it covered by warranty or u paid for it since it is water damage?

It is free as mine is still under warranty. I just told them the truth that it was caused by me. It took me by surprise at the speed of repair and free service. I'm very happy to have my Mate 9 back.

Wow free for water damage. Excellent. +1

That alone is worth some value, I'd like to see premium Sammy and Apple match that!

Huawei is finally putting a bigger focus on software updates

The company says Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 will roll out to the Huawei Mate 9 within four weeks after the Mate 10 launches.

The Mate 9 will get some of the Mate 10‘s fancy new AI features, including Smart Tips that prompt you to change your phone settings when it senses you’re in a certain environment.

The company hopes to release security patches every three months to lower-end devices and every month for higher-end phones.

I have the oldest mate 9 in singapore probably. It was born fast and it stays fast. I use phones extensively, battery is depleted at least once a day. I have a lot of games inside. I use phones in dusty places, in rain, and have no sympathy for the phone. It is working flawlessly, speed is just as fast as first day. Best phone I ever owned. Take my opinion with a bit of salt because we sell Huawei but I'm trying to be honest here.

Mate 9 works well even after one year, the AI optimisation thing seems to work somehow, firmware updates many in the past year, the phone is zippy and I swipe fast so expect the fone to keep up and it does.

Battery remains one of the excellent features and the super charging feature is understated but gets the big battery recharged very fast - but u shd use the charger and cable provided. I've tried with other chargers and standard charging is normal but takes a long time for the 4000mah battery. I see others (esp. iPhone) constantly using power banks and each iOS version upgrade either heavy on battery consumption or lags badly on older phones. Never had to use a power bank since I got this phone (and also the XM RMN3). I would seriously think hard about any fone less than 4000mah battery whatever the claims on efficiency.

got it first day of launch and yes, it is the best phone i've used so far. it really stays fast with little or no memory lag. battery wise, still gets me through the day without needing to charge.

then again, i like to be ready for anything so i bought a couple of supercharge adaptors and the usb c cable. also have the fast charging powerbank just in case i use the phone extra extensively on certain days.
