Actually one can't compare each other's SoT without standardize the brightness. outdoor under bright sunlight, the screen may output 6~700 nits, indoor usually won't exceed 200 nits.

GSMArena since 2016 had set brightness to 200 nits for battery test. take web browsing test--H264/H265/VP9 video will take more processing power--Mate 20 score 19h42m, Mate 9 did 14h14m. expected since Kirin 980 is a 7nm SoC vs 960's 16nm.

Is your Mate 9 using new battery? Cos my old battery (1y10mth old) can get sot of only 7hrs plus till about 12% left. After change can get sot of 8hrs51min till 21%left.

nope. but my mate 9 was never my daily driver. full charge cycles <30 and thats alr a very conservative estimate so i dont think the degradation got that jialat.

i miss the mate 9 fingerprint sensor though. the matte texture really helps.

im in full agreement. however both greddy and i are (or have been) users of both the mate 20 and mate 9 and our usage patterns would probably be similar between our mate 9 and mate 20.

maybe in my use case the mate 20 is much more efficient while in his, the mate 20 is of similar efficiency to the mate 9, hence there is little improvement

I feel mobile phones have reached a point where there is no breakthrough in terms of features. Year on year, the improvements are pretty incremental. Even more powerful SOCs are not going to make the user experience any better. They only look good when running benchmarks and in games. So if you don't really game much, Mate 9 will be able to last for sometime.

I compared it when set to Max possible brightness. M9 is brighter.

What is the purpose of comparing which is brighter though? In both cases, both are bright and don't have issues with sunlight eligibility, which is good enough.

Does anyone manage to mute the sound during video recording ? I swipe left to reveal the Settings menu and then turn Mute ON but the video recorded was still with sound. Is my phone faulty ?

But they force you to upgrade to a new phone by dropping security patch. If you don't use banking apps then probably it fine.

I sent in my Mate 9 to change the battery and they changed the LCD panel with it. They said the battery is attached to the panel and have to change together.

How much they charge you for LCD panel? Did Huawei charge you the battery as well?

Under warranty, no cost.
When I collect my phone, they just inform me that changing the battery involved changing the LCD panel as well.
