To be honest do we really need to root? Sorry guys, but the way I see it its alot of epenor boosting only. Rooting a phone has its implications and I have my doubts if many of the people that root actually fully comprehends what root access actually entails. Furthermore, apart from a few legitimate cases, what do we really need root for?

That's my 2 cents.

to each his own, my second most frequent visited forum is XDA

of course there's risk in everything.

even if you're not rooted, if you anyhow install apps from unknown sources you're still at risk.

anyway i don't do e-commerce things on my phone. it's basically calls, emails and net surfing.

also by installing a custom kernel, it really helps in extending my battery life.

Apart from greenify which used to be an app I cant live without on my old note 3 and titanium backup root isn't so useful anymore. Doze is fantastic so far on my n6 and I haven't found any custom roms or kernel worth flashing (still early days) that needs tweaking. So nope can do without root for now

Why isn't titanium backup useful anymore?

Sorry bro, I'm one who enjoys using custom ROMs and tweaking my phone.. Been doing this since the days of O2 Mini..

If u dun do any tweaking, a normal Samsung or LG flagship will do..

To be honest, have you used an Android device before? Titanium backup, Xposed, Tasker, SetCPU & Viper4Android are just the few from the top of my head.

Dont get me wrong. If you wanna talk about tweaking I was there ever since the HTC magic days, where I used a Motorola dext and SE arc S I rooted, installed stuff, tried overclocking it to play my media better. But, honestly, tweaking as I mentioned doesn't really give much benefit. Granted my experience was from some time back. But custom kernels and roms weren't as battery friendly nor smooth as in built roms.

Maybe that has changed? Idk. I been trying out windows phone for 2 years.

All I know is when I'm on a forum or a gathering of techies, its always about rooting, tweaking even when it isn't nessecary or needed Some just unlock their phone just to say "I did it" that's the group I disagree the most with.

I know not everyone's like that. Its just how I feel on the matter :s22:

Didn't know rooting was such a big deal. Anyone with a computer with internet access and can read instructions should be able to root. :s13:

Custom roms and kernals have indeed come a long way since then. And most of them improve on quite a few things from stock. For me, rooting is essential for Android just like jailbreaking is essential for iOS.

Oh, rooting isn't a big deal. Just that everyone being pressured/or feel like doing it is some momentous thing when its so easy, it was easy in the past, I can only imagine its gotten easier or at least maintained the difficulty.

Well I'm glad to hear that's it has improved. Gonna look forward to tweaking my z5 in the future :Db

Sony quite strict with unlocking BL and rooting apparently. It even degrades camera performance.

I think the safest device for modding is Oppo/1+/Moto X Pure and perhaps the 6P ;)

Yea I know. I nowadays not too keen on tweaking...I used to flash new stuff every other day... now not that free, I quite okay with being abit late to the android OS game. Lollipop to marshmallow not much changes. Plus the z5 will get it unless Sony sinks haha.

Guys, just calm down and wait for Huawei's official response.

I sent them a message on FB asking if unlocking the BL means no warranty. The message was seen 8pm+ but no response. I think the social media tech have to confirm with higher ups first. :s13:

Wow. So much speculation and discussion about unlocking bootloader and warranty, here all I am thinking about is pre order date. Sigh.
