This might be a bit bias because I am writing in a Huawei phone thread but I do not know which is the most suitable thread to put this enquiry in.

I am currently out of contract and is considering between 3 phones. (or 4 if u consider the variant)

Oppo Reno 2, Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei P30 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10

I am currently using an Oppo Phone, I have no issues with it except its battery life.

I think the phones I highlighted are all on the higher end of the phone products but I am those type of people that do not like to change phones so very often.

So originally I was planning on getting back an Oppo phone but Sales people advise to consider Huawei P30 Pro, because of the much better Leica lens camera and 50x zoom. (though I am sceptical if I truly ever need to zoom so far out - probably a nice luxury to have but will hardly use)

If I choose the Huawei P30 Pro though, what I am most concerned with is that google will no longer support Huawei or something like that because Trump banned Huawei. So I am concerned that:

1. P30 pro has no google chrome and google playstore built in (I forgot to ask the sales person)
2. After future updates, there will be no more updates for whatever apps and common programs. I am not sure if not being supported by android or google will adversely affect the phone usage in future.

3. I use this app called a color note for storing some of my info and would like this info to be transferred from my old phone to new one. Will there be any problems?

4. And I am using whatsapp and other application called Zalo. (so will usage be affected in future if Android no longer support Huawei??

And to complicate things, I read that Huawei P40 pro is being launched already. (it says 26 Mar 2020 online but probably not in Singapore) But I understand that P40 pro will not be supported by android or google any more. But the tech stuff, the battery life are all much better than P30 Pro. And since the launch date is so close to today, I wondered if I should wait. But the sales said the offer on hand will only last till Friday, 27 Mar 2020.

I think the current offer is decent (they were offering around $400 for the phone) but at $70 a month for unlimited calling out (which is very important to me) and unlimited sms and only 3GB of data (which is surprisingly less important to me currently as I watched little online videos but I do play this game called Hearthstone quite a lot).

I might add that the above offer are for 2 lines. which is suitable for me currently.

I am wondering if I should take up this offer for the Huawei P30 Pro or I should consider Oppo Reno 2, or Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or even Huawei P40 pro.

Please kindly advise. I am not so good with such tech stuff.

I just bought a used P30 Pro from redwhite for 620. The phone is pre-ban so Google,Chrome and the likes are all loaded by default.

Cant go wrong with Huawei in terms of battery and camera, too bad about the orangutan in the white house, the ban is pretty dumb.

I bought a P30 Pro. I decided not to wait anymore even if it meant that in another 2 weeks, we can have access to the first pricing for P40 Pro. My consideration is because of the preloaded google apps and services and the fact that P40 pro will no longer have access to the same services except installing it via an unofficial method which is tedious and complicated (at least to a non tech savvy person like me)

I also worry about what will happen when the android system gets upgraded and how Huawei, whom got the on-going ban from the US gov, will be affected in terms of their phones. e.g. the P30 Pro I bought. But I was told that at least for the 2 years, Huawei is obliged to support the end phone users. But does anyone knows what will likely happen after the 2 years? (will our phones continue to be supported?)

I hope so. I am not a person that likes to change phone often.

And does anyone knows where to buy affordable but good quality backup type c charging cable + charger for Huawei P30 Pro. I had a bad experience of using an inappropriate cable and charger for my old phone and the phone got burnt at the charging connection point. That was a cheaper phone. The last thing I want is to have my new phone malfunction because of overheating from using inappropriate cables. But the charger and cable from Huawei cost more than $50 per piece. As a backup cable, this seems very extravagant. Advice appreciated greatly.

Hi SyraLeo, Granzon,

am I right to understand that you've bought the P30 Pro at RedWhite for $620?

Is it brand new with 256GB/8GB RAM?

also going down direct to their shop or need to message them in advance?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Huawei tends to give 2 OS upgrades and several security updates for new handphone models.

Hence, I expect a new handphone to be up to date for about 3 years from the date of launch.

However, the OS upgrades and security updates might be slower compared to other brands due to some Google restrictions.

Eventually, Huawei could base its EMUI on Harmony OS. My take is around end 2021 when its Apps Gallery is more mature.
