P20 Pro to P30 Pro is only a small jump. The marketing targets iPhone and Samsung phone users since the CEO kept comparing P30 Pro with these two brands during the launch.

p20pro a good camera phone indeed
only thin i dislike s the memory , thats why i din upgrade from my p10+
p30 pro i am jumping onboard

Trend now is for flagship phones with all the features to have large 6.4" screen. Only way for small hands are 21:9 ratio screen.

I would beg to differ. May have been a trend but not anymore. Phone makers have realised that there is still a compelling market for smaller phones with big features that is why you have the s10e, the G8, iphone xs, xperia compact series and so on. If these phone makers can support flagship features into a smaller package then why can't Huawei on their P30 which is about the same size as the phones that I have listed above? I mean common la, scrooge on IP68?? That’s so basic. You know how many phones we used to receive that had water damage before IP68 was introduced? Tons.

The common distinguishable line between the flagship's smaller n bigger brother in most cases is usually, the screen and the battery size. Yes, to leave out 1 or 2 additional flagship feature(s) in a smaller phone is acceptable or even understandable but to leave so many features out on the P30? Err.. not right la bro.

The P30 Pro is definitely the winner here. If you're comfortable with its size and weight I would say do consider it. However, the same can't be said about the P30 in my opinion.

To upgrade to the new model, you don’t include price of the old model.
Should just be 1500-500=1000

True. In terms of price analysis, it is of too little value for money unless one is willing to throw cash after new phones:

P20 Pro
Launch price ~ $1,100
Current resale ~ $500

P30 Pro
Launch price ~ $1,500

So a buyer will need to spend a total of $1,100 + $1,500 - $500 = $2,100 to upgrade to the new model after 1 year.

Nowadays hand phones are really expensive

Demo sets are out at the telco stores, just played with one at an M1 shop.

Even though the P30 Pro is larger than the old p20, it feels good in the hand because of the curved edges. Wish the screen was QHD but it's not a dealbreaker.

Not having a high res screen will help in battery life

A video for those that doubted the milky way galaxy long exposure photos during the presentation was shot with p30 pro. Some photographers commented the photos must be fake because 30 sec long exposure do not have star trail.

Not sure is he the photographer of galaxy photos. Anyway he shot the photos in Namibia and showed the exif data, also shot a photo with p30 pro using S10 exposure value for comparison. There are slight star trail when pixel peep and later compared photos shot with nikon d850 dslr, also explained why there are so little star trail.

fast forwdard to 6 min mark for the photos.

Yep, that's why I ain't even mad at a FHD screen. Text is perfectly legible. My p20 has superb battery life and I'm expecting the same from the P30.

Was entertaining the thought of jumping to a S10+ but the S10 hwz thread is just sad to read through. 2-3 weeks in and they're still screwing around with battery tweaks. Fat lot of good a super hi-res screen will do you if your phone can't even make it through one day.

A 48 inch led TV panel wouldn't be able to c difference between fhd or 2k/4k, let alone a small 6inch phone screen

I jumped to S10+ from mate 20 Pro and am missing the Huawei tech a lot, namely:
-battery life, S10+ with exynos while isn't that bad, it's not mate and P grade
-Huawei's super charge is so fast, I'm too used to that
-mate's ultra wide angle's shots is market leading imo, better than LG and Sammy. That + night shot is even better!
-night shot is godly
-with my usage pattern, S10+'s exynos is no better than Kirin 980
-mate's face ID (S10+'s in screen fingerprint sensor is better than mate's but these are still inferior to a hardware based sensor)
This is my only worry about p30p...

Having said that,
-S10+'s HDR processing is probably a little better
-the still shots' colour are truer
-the video is a fair bit better

I find that s10's features like:
-cat 6 WiFi
-5G
To be silly... As 5g is at least 2 years away while cat 6 WiFi is so rare at this point

And personally, I'm not a very screen person, while s10's screen is market leading, I don't find FHD+ Vs 2k tech on a 6.4 inch estate to be that much of a difference.

So, I had ordered the p30p and will be selling the S10+ on 6 Apr XD.

I feel that Sammy is playing catch up with the gap getting larger bit by bit while apple is utterly boring by now

S10 will have notification light function while p30 sadly doesn’t have.

I'm not sh|tting on Samsung or anything, they've got their fans and the hardware is obviously working out for them. I personally just don't feel a hi-res screen is worth losing Huawei's battery life and fast charge.

P20 Pro
Launch price ~ $1,100
Current resale ~ $500

P30 Pro
Launch price ~ $1,500

So a buyer will need to spend a total of $1,100 + $1,500 - $500 = $2,100 to upgrade to the new model after 1 year.

Nowadays hand phones are really expensive

At first you spent $1.1k and sold it at $500,a loss of $600. The 'price' for using it a year.
New one cost $1500, so you fork out $1500 - $500 =$1k to upgrade and $1.6k to own a phone.

That's why even my mate 20x is a pre-owned set, to minimize loss should I sell it.

Best is to buy a pristine condition that buyers sell after weeks of usage, can save up to $400. Then the loss will be much minimized upon selling it or if heng, break even.
Example, retail price $1500, street price $1300. Maybe can get at $1100-$1200 for a mint condition on carousell. So when you sell it upon getting p40pro, say at $900, a loss of $300.
Sure will lugi one unless your phone came from the future.

The Mate 20 Pro is looking good considering its age in the retail market space, flagship features and all.

It's a good consideration if you don't wish to take up the P30 Pro route, but considering between this and the P30.

Mate 20 pro already street price less than $900... unlikely to drop that much in the future

Generally can't discern, but 1440p res is noticeable for some.
Once you're used to it, you might not want to step back.

A 48 inch led TV panel wouldn't be able to c difference between fhd or 2k/4k, let alone a small 6inch phone screen
