My thoughts on P9 vs HTC 10
Hi guys, I recently bought a HTC 10 and using it for one week. Here are my thoughts compared with my 5mth old Huawei P9, which I also posted on the HTC thread.
Build & Design
Both the P9 and 10 have excellent build quality, but I have to say the 10 just edges the P9 out. Look and feel in hand is just top notch. Plus the curved back of the 10 makes it easier to handle and the front facing fingerprint scanner is more convenient, esp when mounted to hp holder in car.
Screen
Frankly, quite underwhelmed by 10's screen. It seems dim and has pinkish tint. My P9 gives overall better viewing experience despite being only 1080p compared to 10's 2k display.
Camera
The P9 seriously has an underrated camera. Fantastic dynamic range, nice Leica film modes to make your pictures pop, crazy amount of different functions and shooting modes you can play with. It's good in low-light too. The 10 has a great camera as well, but I think P9 has slightly better image quality, and is a more consistent shooter. I get less blurred / out-of-focus shots with the P9 even though it doesn't have OIS compared to the 10.
However, both still can't hold a candle to my 1.5 yo LG G4, which imo still is still one of the best mobile cams.
Battery
Both get good battery but my P9 has slightly better SOT for my usage (5.5 hrs) compared to 10 (5 hrs). Both have power saving mode activated.
Speed
I'm not a benchmarks person or heavy gamer, but I think the P9 outperforms the 10 in day-to-day use. Apps load and install faster, downloads are faster on the P9. Surprising as I thought the SD820 on the HTC 10 would outperform the Huawei. The P9 runs less hot too.
Sound
Frankly, am not ultra-impressed with the speakers on the 10, despite the marketing hype. Sounds about the same as bottom mono speaker on P9. In fact, P9 speaker gets louder. Headphone wise, the 10 delivers better sound quality than P9, though not by a huge margin. That said, I'm not really an audiophile so my ears may not be so trained to pick out the nuances.
Software
Clear win for the HTC here. I dislike the garish interface of the P9. Nova launcher helps but overall the P9 settings menu is a nightmare to navigate. But it's features-packed, if thats what you're looking for. HTC software is neat and clean, but there are also some questionable decisions (no HTC gallery, no HTC music app, cannot customise shortcuts on notification shade).
Overall
Both are good phones, but i think the P9 offers better value-for-money at this point. Cheaper, and imo, a slightly better phone than the 10.
