Stopping the use of half-masked nric =! it will be unmasked nric. The programmer prolly misunderstood.

so basically Indranee was just echoing the mistake that was being made. But she made it confusing for the public.

Isn't stop use of mask == unmask?

Or got somewhere in between? Last time mask 5 char next time mask 4 char?

I think the people doing data need NRIC to be unmasked for easier vLookup. Then it got miscommunicated to be go all out to unmask.

Means instruction give wrongly right from the start.

When someone say cease [something], means need to stop doing [something]

In this case, the something is the partially masking of nric

So, to cease doing that either, means:
1. Fully mask nric
2. Or fully unmask nric

Since (1) clearly doesn't make sense, it is logical to do (2).

If they meant to refer to access, then the instructions should be something like "open up access to relevant parties" instead of ceasing the use of partially masked nric
I believe they should have a cyber security guy and a team to gate the process.

Cannot be the Web developer do with full authority.

“Second Minister for Finance Indranee Rajah emphasised that ceasing the use of partially masked NRIC numbers does not mean that masked NRIC numbers should necessarily become unmasked and that this was a misunderstanding.”

Not true. Let’s say face mask

Mask up = mask up
Stop use of mask = optional not to mask up anymore but you can still mask as necessary

It is NOT an order to stop masking up. This was what happened here apparently

TS is not alone. I also don't understand what this Mini-star Indra is saying.
It's very clear to me that ceasing the use of partially masked NRIC means just display NRIC in full without masking it. I would do the same as well if I was handling the bizfile portal, to save the additional cost to mask it. If this is not the intent, then the relevant ministry need to make clear of it in the circular it published to other government agencies.

Whole ministry so big, no one bother to double check whether it’s correct to show the unmask IC

Despite ceasing the use of partially masked NRIC numbers, masked NRIC numbers are not required to be unmasked 😂

either masked or unmasked, no partial

Probably between the ministry and ACRA, only 1 person each is working on the project.

A tell B, B execute.
no checks,no verification.

communication failed.

if mindeaf is the one miscomme, cannot imagine a war can be started!
