I would say best is to try with earphones/headphones you are familiar with. =) I reverted the firmware to 1.0.3 because I like the sound more but there are certain cases where firmware 1.1.0 performs better. More smooth on the 1.1.0 firmware than the 1.0.3 but SQ took me back to the former.

I think some did comment that the EQ on latest firmware is quite screwed up but as for SQ, like the opinions here, are either favourable or a bit disappointed. IMO, some of my classical tracks did sound better on v1.0.3 but pop songs sound better on current version.

I downloaded the v1.10 of the firmware and placed it in the root folder as advised by Headfi forum and DX100 is supposed to recognise the new update the player. It doesn't seems to do so. Is there any step I missed out and how to verify that the update is successful?

Did you unzip the archive and move/copy the content to DX100 root directory? If done so, did you disconnect the DX100 from USB? For me, disconnecting from USB will automatically start the update process, if not, do a restart and it should start updating.

Judging from the response in HeadFi and here.

Prolly getting a Clip Zip with a 32GB card and save up for the DX100.

Hopefully by then the updates are better and less problem.

But heck I can live with that, I would love to have it right now!

I think the improvements on pop songs is not worth the tradeoffs. The new firmware makes the dx100 sound congested on almost every other genre of music.

haha. I will just leave it at that, so that the next firmware update will hopefully deliver a huge SQ improvement

Just before anyone starts on the "fake caps" claim now posted on Head-Fi and ABI forums, the caps are authentic, just that the modder doesn't seem to recognize only gold/black colored elna caps to be the real stuff, anything else is fake to him.

Makes me wonder if it's worth downgrading to v1.03. Mine arrived with v1.1

you should just downgrade to see if you like the sound quality. Since you can upgrade back to 1.1 anytime without issues.

Ahhh I see.

Stereo was down to their last set last week and I'm assuming it should be gone by now. Waiting for next batch which will be around June.

You can slowly save up and contact me by then. I may not have sold it by then and the price could be lower than my original. Alternatively, take loan from someone (other than loan shark) and then do installment plan
