Got my W530 weeks ago. Awesome solid laptop, finally can join the fan club. :D

Looking for the HDD Caddy to swap DVD drive to another SSD. Any idea where i can buy this HDD Caddy?

What SSD do you people use with thinkpads? I dont see a Intel 520 SSD which is 7mm, Trying not to get vertex 4 due to failure rate.

Yes, this is a better choice.
But it is better to wait for Win8 preload vs Win8 upgrade.

When T430u coming out with win 8 ?

I need to buy this laptop cos it is 14inch compare to X1 13.3 inch.

And most important it is matt screen.

Anyone know when it is coming out ?

Thanks omar, correct me if im wrong, mSata is abit slow right?

Primary drive 512GB(7mm) : Gonna get Intel 520 or Samsung 830(if can find in sg)
- Purpose : VMware / virtualization / studies...

Remove DVD drive and installing a 128GB SSD for linux OS
- Need 9.5 or 7mm SSD?

Thanks for your advice.

mSATA SSD are generally slower than full-sized SSDs because the mSATA slot is rated at SATA2, and not at SATA3 for the full-sized SSD.

Cheerio!

I'm in big trouble :(

Created recovery disk using a thumbdrive, thumbdrive has files around 12.xGB

Removed old ssd, swapped to empty SSD, rebooted laptop with thumbdrive, Pressed Enter->F12 and selected USB drive, but doesnt bootup. Am i doing anything wrong? Wanted to try with DVD but I cant run the recovery disc program more than once!

EDIT : Found a solution, able to bootup and installing now...

Well, you could get a cheap SSD for it. Only issue is that your SSD would not be able to run anything higher than SATA1 due to hardware limitation on the T60.

There is a hacked BIOS for for the T61/X61 to run SATA2 speeds though, but that is irrelevant in your case. :(

However that being said, having a SSD will definitely speed up your laptop. Had a 80GB SSD on a netbook and it was running Win7 Ultimate fine. :) My wife used it for normal tasks like web surfing, videos and some word/excel processing.

Cheers!

Anyone know ?

T430u will be reaching AddOn by mid-october.

btw, how come you are comparing the old X1 to T430u?

if you have the $, go for X1 Carbon which has 14" 1600x900 matte display. unless you dun like the higher resolution.

there is also T430s which has 14" 1600x900 matte display coming in end October.

May i know where to get X1 carbon and how much ?

good thing about x1, there is 3G card slot.

I may need that.

And also, win 8 inside x1 carbon.

X1 Carbon already available in Lenovo shops.
i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD - $2399
i7, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD - $2999

Win8 notebooks won't be available yet. only from Nov onwards.
but you can buy a Win7 notebook now and get free upgrade to Win8Pro - have both licences better isnt it?

Current X1 Carbon no 3G support, as first batch not ready for IDA approval. if you want X1 Carbon with 3G, properly have to wait for end of the year refresh
